March marks the start of spring. Plants bloom, colors fill nature, and nights are noticeably shorter. The spell of the full moon also brought us a reminder: in less than a month's time we will be dancing under its magic at Mostra Festival, for us a special one: the first festival of the year, in our hometown, with an unbeatable location, atmosphere and selection of artists. The 31st episode of Selene Series brings you a mix of songs by artists that will perform at this year's edition (like we did last year). We tried to capture in just over an hour the essence of the sound that will be displayed at Mostra, from ambient, to downtempo to deep and hypnotic techno and everything or anything in between.

If one were to imagine that some kind of divine musical intelligence had sprinkled extra-special talent in a few places on Earth, it's tempting to think that Hanover must be one of those blessed spots. Surprising, right? Yes, Hanover, the somewhat dull northern German city known for its trade fairs, consistently produces one talented artist after another. And now, we have Andere, whose debut album, "Alles Andere," on Kein Rauch ohne Feuer, continues the narrative of deep, yet raw electronic music. 

"Shifter" aligns with this tradition while infusing it with a playful and energetic twist. This six-minute surprise story begins as an almost melancholic dancefloor gem and then evolves into a euphoric sensation. You don't need any external stimulants for this track, I assure you. It elicits a warm and fuzzy feeling, takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions, and eventually explodes into a moment of collective embrace and intense feelings, teetering on the line between ecstasy and overwhelming emotion. What makes this track special is that it has a steady development but a lot of surprises. At times you feel cornered, surrounded by the different sounds and then fully embraced. 

It's been a while since I've been this convinced about a dancefloor track. However, pigeonholing Andere as just a peak-time track producer would be an underestimate; the album demonstrates that. Like many artists from Hanover, Andere possesses that special nectar that allows him to excel across an eclectic range of styles.

Winter time is fast approaching, nights are longer, and the moon enjoys extended glow time. Our 39th mix, and the first one of year 4 of Selene Series, is a collection of recent releases that are bringing warmth to our ever-colder days. 

Deep and hypnotic techno, four to the floor and below 125 bpm. At times, our tried and tested classic formula is all we crave.

That's the fruit of four guys' collaboration : Jiman, Voice of Sylenth and Untitled Signal, who have the same state of mind, each have their own vision of music.
Influenced by the pioneers of Detroit, Berlin vibes and UK experiment, they aim to promote the experimental and powerful sides of techno music.

Sur les trente rêves qu’a du faire le jeune producteur techno lillois Jiman à l’orée de sa discographie, l’un sans doute était de monter un label de l’ambition et de l’envergure de Paerer. Une ambition qui, sur le papier, n’avait pourtant rien d’insurmontable : faire se joindre sous une même bannière les fractions d’une techno désormais affranchie de ses carcans passés, qu’ils soient dub, indus ou électronica. Autrement dit l’alchimie recherchée par tout label électronique, et à fortiori techno, qui se respecte peu avant les années 2020. Lancé en 2018, grâce à la passion partagée pour la production de Jiman et quelques un de ses amis, le jeune Paerer est l’enfant terrible de la scène techno française qui explosa au début de la dernière décennie. Un pied du coté de l’école de Birmingham (Regis, Surgeon) ou de l’EBM de Meat Beat Manifesto, l’autre dans les profondeurs dub de Basic Channel ou d’Echospace, le tout avec la folle envie d’expérimenter, le label présente un profil aux antipodes de ses contemporains et un esprit revêche qui le rend particulièrement sympathique. Sur la foie de quelques various bien sentis, aidés par des mentors et frères de sons comme Birth Of Frequency ou Pulse Code Modulation, la toute jeune structure, dont le logo rappelle méchamment celui d’une autre figure tutélaire de la scène électronique, commence à faire sérieusement parler d’elle. Mais cela était sans compter sur un contexte et une pandémie qui allaient rebattre radicalement les cartes, notamment pour les indépendants, balayer des labels aussi importants que le Stroboscopic Artefacts de Lucy et faire vriller toute la scène vers les sonorités pourtant décriées par le passé de la trance et du breakbeat 90’s. Aspiré malgré lui dans ce vortex dystopique, Paerer passe en peu de temps de rejeton prometteur à bastion des valeurs cardinales technoïdes.
