Palle Dahlstdt - Music from Evolutionary Algorithms

Sound examples from the interactive music installation MutaSynth by Palle Dahlstedt, which lets users interactively evolve new music. This installation later led to the Patch Mutator in the Nord Modular G2 synthesizer.

These sound examples were created by Swedish school children using an interactive evolutionary music software designed based on algorithms by Palle Dahlstedt, in the MusikJakten research project. This project is a collaboration between the Nobel Museum, University of Gothenburg and Interactive Institute Swedish ICT.

Sound engines were programmed by Palle Dahlstedt in Gibber, an in-browser sound design language by Charlie Roberts.

MusikJakten - examples of evolved music

This is a song made by Palle Dahlstedt from all the music examples produced by the participating schoolchildren in the finale of MusikJakten (The Music Hunt). The musical material was created using an interactive evolutionary music software designed based on algorithms by Palle Dahlstedt, in the MusikJakten research project. This project is a collaboration between the Nobel Museum, University of Gothenburg and Interactive Institute Swedish ICT.

All sounds from the 19 groups in the finale are in the song, and no other material is used.
