Third and closing chapter of the Oyster Tribe series, the revised single edition of Brent Lewis ‘1739’ oozes a mix of breezy outback dreamtime, red earth funk and sun-baked drum virtuosity. Originally issued in 2004 as part of his self-released ‘Drumsex’ album, Lewis’ mystique-imbued tune sculpts a tripped-out hybrid jam out of spoon percs and folk-infused broken beat; and who better than OZ home-boys FIO and Fantastic Man to add their masters' spin to that totemic chugger.

Whilst FIO cranks the BPMs a notch further and beefs up the bass to turn the OG mix into a serious contender for countryside banger of the year, Fantastic Man plays havoc with the whole of Lewis track’s DNA sequence, slicing, dicing and re-hashing its bits and bobs over and over again to form a Southerner variant of the Frankenstein creature, all sight set on busting dancefloors by the dozen.

An idea born between the underground of London and the dance floors of Berlin, UNDERTHESEA is a concept series combining vinyl releases with club nights. Hailing from Barcelona, Gregori Menendez (aka Grego After All) found an interest in the crashing waves between house and techno. Influenced by these vibrations, he craves to push the boundaries of electronic music, to encourage up and coming acts with the support of established artists to build up a talented network and an output of quality.

The connection between the Mediterranean and Caribbean Sea brought X-Coast and the label together to drop the first episode of UNDERTHESEA. The New York-based artist delivers three fresh original cuts complemented with a remix by Berlin’s versatile talent Borrowed Identity. The EP presents equal parts of groove and energy characterised by X-Coast´s 90’s rave inspirations with a pulsating swell combined with seductive female vocals just like a mermaid’s allure. On the flip-side, Borrowed Identity illustrates his stripped down rhythms for a well-rounded 12-inch.

Continuing its party series, UNDERTHESEA is hosting two showcases in August to represent the vibe of the project. First in Berlin’s Schwuz on August 3rd and in Barcelona’s Razzmatazz on August 18th with more to be confirmed.

Keep an eye on the sea, you never know what’s underneath.

All tracks from the original LP were restored and pressed over 2LP for your listening pleasure. Kwaito fans, your attention please: this LP was crafted and mixed by the pioneer producer Arthur Mafokate. Comes with a Gerd edit, for these club situations.

Sorrow’s only silver lining is the selflessness it inspires in others. The nightmare of last year’s fire in Oakland left so many of us shredded, shattered, and speechless. But a communal compassion surged up in response, with artists, allies, and acquaintances from all over the globe re-connecting and re-committing to the power and potential of independent music as a healing, unifying force. So many SILK friends and family reached out expressing the desire to contribute creatively to a relief effort it was clear the emotion deserved an outlet. Silk To Dry The Tears collects 31 such songs from a spectrum of 100% Silk alumni and affiliates, threaded across four sides of fogged house, fantasy acid, nocturnal electronics, sleepwalker pop, and rhythmic reveries of varied internal states. Totaling nearly 170 minutes, it’s a sprawl and a statement, shared in the spirit of inclusion, endurance, and empathy. Music brought us together; music will keep us together.

After the success of Yuki Suzuki’s summer smash – ‘Need Your Love’ Max Essa’s Tokyo based Jansen Jardin label is back and this time around Max himself takes a front seat. ‘One Hundred Times’ is a deep, mid-tempo ‘house-not-house’ instrumental reminiscent of some lost late 80’s masterpiece. Jazzy pads, a particularly satisfying bass line and some serious drums and percussion combine to create something warm, organic and maybe even a little bit soulful. Halfway through the track develops into a distinctly discoid affair with live bass and guitar making an appearance shaking up the groove while the proto house synth action continues unabated.

The remix comes courtesy of none other than Belgium’s deep house master, San Soda. Over the last 2 – 3 years he has notched up an impressive selection of tracks for the simply brilliant We Play House label. Here he delivers a super deep reworking, stripping the track back to its raw essentials to create a wonderfully emotive piece of house music, beautiful in its simplicity. Already something of anthem with San’s local crowd, now is your chance to own another highly desirable piece of vinyl from the wonderful Jansen Jardin.
