It would seem that you have returned for another offering from the audible gods, this one (or any in the future) will not disappoint. Another special delivery from the blessed lands of Helsinki. The god behind it is Olli Koponen; a resident favourite of the local dance floors, he jumped at the chance to put something together that didn’t revolve around a 4 x 4 formula. 

He’s delivered a bit of masterpiece, expressing his knowledge of all things music in great detail. The mix reeks of passion and understanding, consistently evolving whilst the narrative remains strong, ebbs and flows of ups and downs. Dusting off all-time classics and seamlessly integrating Neo-classics, digging up old emotions and inciting new ones. There is a lurking, pulsating current that permeates this mix but never actually breaks the surface, a perfect demonstration in the art of restraint. Euphoria still exists, this is a gentle reminder of where to find it.

This week for the Sunset Lovers, one of Vienna’s finest diggers, and first Disco / Edits exports, DJ, producer, and record collector from Austria, Mike Burns will grant us an insight into his current musical dwellings.

It's still winter here, so this mix is a soundtrack for a little dance into those darker and cooler sunsets. It's full of spaced-out 90s slo-mo groovers with a cosmic vibe, bargain bin b-sides, a couple of obscurities, and some classics, thrown in for good measure.

The DJ from Vienna has been driven by a singular passion for almost 25 years now, that of course, being music. Music that draws you in, takes you for a ride, and brings you back home. Music dripping with funk and radiating euphoria. Music out of the ordinary and music that simply puts a smile on your face. Notoriously enthusiastic about playing records, it's this energy he tries to share in his mixes and on any dance floors willing to engage...

His career started towards the end of the last century soundtracking bars with the mellow "Vienna sound" during the week and playing raves on weekends. By the mid-2000s, his obsession with the vintage sound started taking overhand, leading him to explore all things cosmic and disco from around the world. 
Over the following years, a monthly show at Vienna´s first online radio, the now defunct play. FM and a string of disco edit releases gained him some followers around the globe. In recent years he's been most known for his excursions into the tropical sound, which he featured in countless mixes, parties around Europe and his Club Majik night in Vienna. Post-pandemic he is still in search of that perfect soundtrack for the moment, albeit a little darker and more electronic, at least for now...

His benevolent mixing skills and thoughtful, vinyl-heavy selection, and his amazing collection of disco-oddities and leftfield afro/latin/boogie 7″s and 12″s have given him the reputation of a true Disco connaisseur.

What a takeover! @supersoundglobal delivered two hours with the sweetest slow chuggers you can imagine. IF YOU DON'T KNOW THEM, YOU BETTER TUNE IN! They are three friends, who developed their passion for digging and collecting records in their hometown near Lake Ammer in southern Germany. Since then they launched a YouTube channel and and a monthly radio show at Munich’s renowned Radio 80000, in order to share their latest discoveries of forgotten balearic treasures.

A Mind that Makes Verse

A familiar face around the Dutch capital, Amsterdam-based DJ and producer Kennedy has been immersed in music and records for over two decades, putting into practise his mantra of moving both the body and the soul.

While day-to-day he can be found behind the counter at Red Light Records pushing wax, as well as being part of the team at Jamie Tiller and Tako Reyenga's Music From Memory imprint, his own musical endeavours see him taking over the waves at Red Light Radio and running his own Dream Machine imprint, which he launched last year with a debut record from himself. 

This year will see him release a second on the label and also debut overseas on DJ D.Dee's renowned Pacific Rhythm imprint. In the run up to these production outings, we asked him to take the reigns for this week's Shine A Light On mix, which sees him serve up a soothing selection of music for the soul...
