@edavd is the project of multidisciplinary artist Emmanuel David Monteiro. A deep thinker, E Davd brings a theoretical and conceptual lens to his work - if you listen deeply and with intent, you can begin to understand some of the complex ideas that underscore his music. Process driven and creative, E Davd is not bound by genre, rather working with different patterns, rhythms and approaches to sound to explore his connection to, and barriers to ancestry and heritage. Starting out age nine on the congas, playing Cape Verdean and afro music in his dad’s band, E Davd now uses electronic music to explore his own ideas about black music. Now, he uses techno as a mechanism to explore complex themes such as the nexus of nature and technology, Indigenous technologies and afrofuturism. His radio show and soon to be record label ‘Visions of Utopia’ on Nomad Radio also encapsulate these themes, looking toward a utopian society that is not only equal and free from racial violence, but one in which blackness is privileged.  E Davd uses his guest mix on Passing Notes to present a deep excavation into the internet, himself and afrofuturism - expect a sound collage of original works - finished and ‘unfinished’, samples and snippets from afrofuturism documentary ‘The Last Angel of History’. I had a wonderful time talking with E Davd about afrofuturism, ancestry, blackness, black music and more.

o•rbyss aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

Notes on the mix:

“As the final chapter of summer approaches, I chose to create an ambient mix in time for the seasonal shift to introspection, reflection & hibernation. A mix for any time or place, to help you experience your surroundings away from the dancefloor.”

Bethan is a London based DJ, and can often be found playing and promoting at East London's much loved Dalston Superstore, as well as other queer parties across the capital, and is a core member of the long running night 'Happy Endings'.

She creates diverse sets that explore the deep, percussive & emotional side to progressive house, early trance, techno & beyond. However, she is just as comfortable playing at lower BPMs, swirling between ambient, downtempo & jungle.

For ONOMIX 013 we are extremely psyched to present a mix from Tokyo based selector / wizard Gold 43. 

A solid fixture of the Tokyo underground scene for the better part of a decade now, Gold 43 cut his teeth working at the esteemed Face Records in Shibuya, where he would have first pick of the wax coming through the door. Building up an arsenal of 90's rave rarities and house gems that define his truly unique style. 

Inspired by the scene and the DJs around him he began spinning his tunes around town, eventually kicking off the party series COMBO at Illas bar in Shimokitazawa, with friend and fellow 90's house nut Jima. A club night where the two of them, plus some special guests, could spin records true to their own style.
