Running a record label has sour moments and sweet moments. But there is a type of situation that is one of our favorites: opening the inbox, finding new material from emerging artists, pressing play and blowing our minds. In short, this is the story of 'In The Maze', the debut EP of the Hungarian duo Geopard Tourist.

What's more, and as if his fascinating music weren't enough, we've had the pleasure of adding the Australian hero Dreems with a dub version in the best Multi-culti style of the track 'Baboon'.

Brazilian producer and DJ Nicolau Marinho steps into summer with a new release on Smash Deep, titled ‘In Monako’. Known for his distinctive underground approach to house music, Nicolau continues to explore the world between classic influences and modern production with this funky-house-driven track.

‘In Monako’ draws on Marinho’s signature formula - placing well-known hip hop samples at the core of the groove. Strings weave through a punchy, rolling beat, while tight percussion and bass push the track forward. It’s a sharp production that builds around contrasts. The result is a track that feels playful while staying true to his stripped-back house aesthetic.

Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Nicolau Marinho has been shaping his sound since launching his solo project in 2013. Leading lady and artistic talent Deniz Kurtel returns to Crosstown Rebels to explore new production sounds, venturing deeper into the realms of dub and beyond with The Fifth House. It’s also with huge honour that the release includes a stunning remix from highly sophisticated producer Trevino following his recent passing.

Since her first album Music Watching Over Me was released on Crosstown Rebels back in 2011, Deniz Kurtel has continued to push boundaries creatively through her art and music. Focusing on LED light installation, Deniz has travelled the world with her stunning live show, which incorporates both of her talents. Her second album The Way We Live dropped on Wolf + Lamb in 2012 which received high acclaim. More recent releases have also appeared on Rumors and No.19.

Marcus Julian Kaye is better known by his drum and bass stage name Marcus Intalex, and also his house and techno pseudonym Trevino. He founded the record labels Soul:R, Revolve:R and Birdie which served as a platform for his music with notable recent releases also on the likes Hotflush, The Nothing Special, Aus Music and Klockworks. Such a highly respected figure in the industry, many have been shaken by Marcus’ passing and in his honor all profits from his remix will be donated to the charity of his family’s choice.

Already a well-established presence on the outlandish fringes of experimental, alternative and dance music, celebrated Israeli duo Red Axes make a surprise left-turn onto Phantasy with a three-track 12”, ‘Sipoor’. Unsurprisingly, the results are as pleasingly out-there as the occasion requires. 

Following on from last year’s self-released LP, ‘The Beach Goths’, ‘Sipoor’ immediately announces the Axes’ uncompromising return to the front and centre of the dancefloor with the raw, provocative ‘Bad Time Story’. Brazen, brash acid triggers this particular tale, as Red Axes briskly modulate their way through a ruff, tuff but never less than musical landscape of 303s and 808s. 

‘Sipoor’ takes a more gradual approach to building offbeat rave tension, featuring an unknown male using his native tongue to request some kind of house, some kind of techno and some sort of release. His wish (and we hope, yours) is the Axes’ command, as the music goes deep before seamlessly unfolds around a throbbing bassline and a playful, familiar keyboard sample, beckoning feet to the dancefloor and perhaps tongues ever so slightly to cheeks. 

Concluding the 12”, ‘Teroof’ takes each of Red Axes’ signature ingredients - deeply rhythmic EBM-inspired drums, spiralling electronics, unapologetically odd vocal distortions - and reconstructs them amid what sounds like the Monaco Grand Prix, as high-velocity motors speed past the soundscape, kicking up some serious dust.

Bad Time Story

It's been three years since Swiss producer Michel Cleis conjured a storm with “La Mezcla”, a Cadenza hit cemented into house canon as it was swiftly reissued by Strictly Rhythm, bringing the sabor latino into clubs worldwide. Some more 12”s and a number of high-profile remixes (going from tracey thorn to skunk anansie,for labels like rekids , bronswood or Aus) later, he's now teaming up with DJ Koze's crew for his next move: a colorful, crescendoing 12-minute tune that's ready to make a splash in your summer soundtrack.

“Mir a Nero” begins with a steady, upbeat kick underlying a simple piano arpeggio – like if Philip Glass make dance music – but then some accents of vibrant hand percussion loosen up the vibe, soon progressing into rhythmic layers that cause the energy to swell. By the 4-minute mark, a subtle, buzzing synth permeates the background, contrasting the track's overall organic feel, leading into the playful piano chords and colombian vocal hook. Simply put, this is Latin House with that anomalous Pampa Records swagger, drenched with flavor like Sangria-soaked mango.

Flip that baby over and you get “Amaranthus”, named after the famed flower that represents immortality. This piece stands as a color-negative of “Mir a Nero”, an unwavering stomp with just shadows of the piano sample heard earlier. Freeze-dried rather than sun-ripened, “Amaranthus” is a dubby, more technofied counterpart to the A-Side, crafted for deeper and darker moments on the dancefloor.

Koze is fascinated by this lady: With her peculiarly creepy appearance she seems like a relic from the past era of the Spanish nobility. She is the most pictured woman in Spain and a pop phenomenon. When, in 2011, she married a man 24 years younger than herself, the entire country badmouthed her. Sometimes Koze would love to be that younger man, who the Spaniards dismiss as a legacy hunter!
