The french Dj, producer and journalist taunt us with a wonderful mix that goes from dub to dancehall and rap to the interstellar R&B of Kelis and The Neptunes. "The important thing for me, tells Christelle Oyiri, aka Crystallmess, is to show that you don’t necessary have to play techno for a rave. I love techno music, but you can get the same excitement and energy by playing non-traditional rave sounds. That’s what I wanted to do with that mix." And it works pretty well !

It’s Thursday, 8pm and Natalia (aka Turntable Tina aka @na-ta-li-a) strolls into the Fbi Radio studios. She presents the Bridge, a Sydney focused radio show. For her, it’s been a busy week. Between djing, radio and running party, she also finds time to give back to the Sydney music scene. Along with Andy Garvey, she will be taking a new group of dj’s under her wing for Fbi’s Dance Class (applications here: https://fbiradio.com/danceclass/) in a few weeks time. When she finds time away from the studios, she is the backbone of Sydney collective, NECTAR. An event and booking agency that opens up diverse, welcoming and free spaces within the strict limitations of Sydney nightlife. 

She knows what’s up, sometimes it’s the dance floor, other times it’s a perfectly curated chillout set. Today all hell is about to break loose. Lap it up, straight from the palm of Natalia is the latest mix in our series. Turn up extra loud for warehouse effect.

"This mix is 100% dedicated to the spiral. It’s like having a meltdown but keeping your composure. I tried to keep the same BPM (which I rarely do) and energy : lots of trancey, dreamy synth mixed with hard hitting techno, logobi and kuduro. A balance between intricate and hypnotic afro-rhythm and other things. 

It’s always an experience recording a club mix outside of a club because my DJ Sets are super informed by my perception of the crowd, the dancing, the generosity, the general atmosphere but now I’m alone in front of my CDJ’s and my own demons" - @crystallmess
