This is a tribute mix to one of the most talented, kind, and lovely people I know. I have been a fan of Norm's work since I first became interested in "ambient" music, falling in love with the Pavilion LP the moment I heard it. His music has given me so much joy, solace, and inspiration ever since. 
His passing has left a giant hole inside me and for the past two days I haven't done much else other than listen to his music. This mix features some (but not all) of my favorite pieces by Norm.
I never had the pleasure to meet Norm in person, but it was an honor to work with him on several occasions at Muzan.
Norm, wherever you are - perhaps floating on some galactic current in a space-faring bathysphere - I miss you so much. Thank you for everything.

That market doesn’t interest me at all' Instead, I'm looking to release music that will still be around in 10 years time. Music aimed primarily at the danc efloor. Music with soul and depth and meaning. this is the reason i am launching Moxy Muzik." these are the the words Darius Syrossian used to answer a recent question in an interview on why he is launching his new label

And here we are, the first release on the new Moxy Muzik VINYL & DIGITAL label, an essential EP featuring one of his own originals and excellent remixes by Man Power, East End Dubz and Doc Martin. each EP released on the label comes with bespoke, hand-drawn artwork by Charlotte Archer.

The opening track on this first EP on Moxy Muzik is Dance of the Shaman, a turbo charged house cut with warm, rubbery bass made from the unorthodox method of using an Organ underlining slick and driving drums. The infectious groove is full of late night soul and chords stabs bring plenty of human emotions. 

Me Me Me label boss Man Power remixes it into an uplifting track with happy piano chords dancing over the drums. It’s a timeless effort that will get hands in the air and bring real joy to the floor. The legendary Doc Martin then strips things back and layers in some steamy female vocals to his remix and East End Dubz (Vinyl only) does his perfectly floor facing thing with dubbed out drums and slick hi hats keeping you dancing for days. Shaf Huse delivers his trademark peak time House sound that has been heavily supported from the likes of Martinz Brothers.

Future releases on Moxy Muzik will come from the likes of Phil Weeks, Tommy Vicari Jnr, Ray Mono, Christian Burkhardt, Ben Rau, Dense & Pika and of course Darius himself & will cover plenty of sound crossing both house & techno genre's but avoiding the generic obvious sounds that Darius feels is around too much at the moment. 

* THE MOXY MUZIK RESIDENCY & LABEL PARTIES

As the Label is launched, Darius is doing a series of parties across the uk & abroad to coincide with the Launch of the label, 
these are ALL going to be all night long or 6 hour sets, and to be ONLY held in CLUBS. as well as starting a Monthly residency at Joshua Brooks in Manchester.
the purpose of this is to take ‘CLUBBING BACK TO CLUBS’ and at the same time, play long extended sets

Darius explains “ i have always said that being a true dj is playing LONG sets, and having a residency, so i want to take this opportunity to show this is what I’m about right now, of course its great to play the huge festivals, & those are great, but there doesn’t seem to be balance anymore, most shows seems to be big branded events in big spaces & short sets, small clubs are closing all over and i want to keep this culture alive, when i was younger i used to go to a club called the orbit near Leeds, i saw Jeff Mills there, i saw Sven Vath there, playing this small 500 capacity venue and it was magical, this is what i want to bring back”

Having agreed to play a 6hr set at Joshua Brooks Manchester in June, the event sold out in under 24 hours off the back of Darius tweeting a ticket link, before any artwork or even an event page was created, such was demand their was another date added the following week which also sold out
The atmosphere was electric & this led Darius to plan on a residency in 2019

Emotive duo Just Emma are back with another of their escapist EPs this time featuring vocalist Zazou and landing on the fledgling Klassified label with remixes from Canson, Monolink and Luca Bacchetti.

While Just Emma comes from a piano playing background, Zazou is a long time electronic act who has had solo success with his Minimal Lounge project. Together the duo has released on labels such as Katermukke, Hanse Hertz, Plötzlich Music and Connaisseur Recordings, and are now striding ahead with their own imprint at Underyourskin Records and their dark and melodic interpretation of electronic music.

Their superb single ‘Baltic Sea’ is a haunting track with Zazou’s aloof vocals echoing in a sea of reverb. It’s a sparse affair with watery melodies and languid drums sinking you into a rueful mood as angular synths ride up and down the mix.

Swiss artist Canson brings global sounds to his music and always plots a real journey with his grooves. His version is an 11-minute epic, with dubbed out vibes and smooth hits helping to get you in a state of hypnosis as the deft chords and soulful vocal sounds all soothe the soul. Acclaimed artist Monolink is at home at Berlin’s best clubs, in the Beatport Top 20 and on labels like Embassy One. His unique take is driving and uplifting, with filtered vocals shining through the arpeggiated synths that ride up and down the scale to cosmic effect. Last of all, Burning Man favourite and Italian storyteller Luca Bacchetti remixes ‘Baltic Sea’ into a sleek and deep house cut that has suspenseful pads keeping you on edge as the soft perc and drums roll on.

Many shades of essential electronic music are covered on this fantastic new EP from Just Emma & Zazou on the ever promising Klassified.

What is in the Museum Of No Art? Not paintings, but visions. Not sculptures, but empty spaces full of potential. It is within this inverted gallery that Mona Steinwidder traces fabulous forms with voice, sampler, synthesizer, clarinet and effects. Under the moniker Museum Of No Art, she has created an album that floats in a hazy lacuna between realities, rooted in propulsive and deep bass resonance, but also footloose, playfully deconstructing language and mixing in layers of echoing synthetic and organic tones. The fascinating result of these unfettered experiments resonate as an imaginary cadavre-exquis played by DJ Screw, Arthur Russell, Hiroshi Yoshimura, MJ Lallo, Poppy Nogood, and Laurie Anderson.

With a background in fine art and music, over the years Steinwidder has created and released music under the pseudonym Mohna, as part of the experimental pop band Me Succeeds, and collaborates with composer Alexander Schubert and electronic dance music producer Christian Löffler. Recently, shifting her focus more on improvisation and experimental music, she moved to Vienna for six months to concentrate on experimenting with synthesizers, samplers and voice. Her intention was to build a “playground” that would leave space for improvisation and allow for a meditative and intuitive process. This solo exploration allowed her to return home with a new way to play.

“I like this idea of an open and light structure that can grow and transform and leaves space in all directions. Something without a clear beginning and ending. A rough, short note. Today I’m in the mood to sing, but tomorrow I might be in the mood to just float on an ocean of synths or to play a solo on my clarinet. I am a never-ending process and I am many. The Museum Of No Art album is a collection of days and moods, images and circumstances I experienced and immediately recorded in the last year.”
