I like the upbeat vibes and the long intro that does a good job at introducing the instrumental of this song! The chorus is really catchy and I'm digging it! Simple track, but very effective. With this song being called turn on your lights btw and the sound, gotta say: your style reminds me of a brighter interpol. And with their album "turn on the bright lights", wouldn't surprise me if you were inspired :)

"Over The Hill" marks the first unveiling from Certain Animals' eagerly awaited third album. 

The song addresses individuals who take unexpected life paths and subsequently vanish from sight.  Using the resonant sound of a 12-string Byrdian guitar, Certain Animals deliver a poignant message of missing someone, but with a hopeful undertone. 

The group cleverly integrates harmonies reminiscent of the Beatles, taking listeners on a musical journey. This trip escalates to a climax, before plunging into the mysterious depths of the unknown. Adding to this unique auditory experience are synth sounds that echo the mesmerizing allure of sirens, coupled with drum fills that emulate the rumble of subterranean tremors. 

Certain Animals has carved out a niche for itself by frequently straying from traditional musical norms. In "Over The Hill", they uphold their characteristic sound while also introducing a fresh yet familiar melody. This way, they manage to avoid redundancy in their music, always keeping fans on their toes.

An immersive mix of swirling psychedelia, breezy indie rock, and sweet synth-pop, Paper Pools’ debut EP It’s in Our Mind is a visionary travelog charting the life of the project’s founder Allen Orr. From Paper Pools’ inception in 2019, Orr knew It’s in Our Mind needed to express the highs and lows of his journey. “A key theme is the contrast between light and dark,” he says. 

Because of the music’s intimacy, Orr handled nearly everything himself. Doubling as producer, he sang and played every note, riff, and synth part, save for a few backing vocals care of Kim Kelly (Amazombies, Mal de Mer) and the mesmerizing grooves. Those were handled by Adam Christgau, who has worked with the likes of Troye Sivan, Sia, and Miley Cyrus. 

It’s in Our Mind is—on top of everything else it expresses about Orr’s unique life—an indelibly L.A. record. It’s suffused with both the gleam of sunshine and the glitter of nighttime lights; it feels natural and free, yet also electric and otherworldly.
