Last year the four piece band released their debut EP on Sydney’s Plastic World, a perfectly measured mix of summery synth pop and tropical disco. It was called "Together", and it brought unity and feelings of shared happiness to nightclubs and pool parties everywhere.

"Altruisme" is their latest single, and another sure sign that Retiree are only looking out for us. The track combines vintage machine drum rhythms, new wave guitar licks, the sounds of the sea, and some haunting French vocals to create a slow funk jam. If "Together" was the sound of last Summer, "Altruisme" brings us Spring. If things couldn't get better, it's also a free download via the band's Facebook page. Last August we released the trailer of what “DubFiles at Song Embassy” will be. It’s a documentary and an album altogether. In February 2015 Paolo Baldini, together with reggae acts Mellow Mood, Forelock, graphic novelist Davide Toffolo and anthropologist Icir Mimina Di Muro, brought his mobile studio to the Song Embassy Yard in Kingston, Jamaica, to record around thirty little-known artists from the ghetto.

The recordings lasted around a week. In the most classic soundsystem fashion, the singers would grab the mic improvising or giving new renditions of their hits on the riddims produced by Baldini. Everything was live and good first take. Every performance was filmed and the artists were later interviewed to bare witness to the incredible amount of talents Jamaica generates, the majority of whom get unfortunately little or no exposure from the media.

The first single from the album is “Boom (Wah Da Da Deng)” by Hempress Sativa Muzik. The videoclip premiered for a lucky crowd during Paolo Baldini’s session at the Reggae University at the Rototom Sunsplash - Official page, Europe’s largest reggae festival, which takes place in Spain at the end of August.

Hempress Sativa, who already featured in Mellow Mood’s latest record, is one of the rising stars of Jamaican roots music, daughter of the great Albert Malawi (selecter of Jah Love soundsystem) and part of the Jah Ova Evil Records / J.O.E collective. In “Boom (Wah Da Da Deng)” she proves to master dj-style and literally breathtaking lyrics.

The single, available on iTunes and all digital platforms and soon available on 7” vinyl, is the first in a series to be released before the “DubFiles at Song Embassy” album is published next spring. The record will be published by La Tempesta Dub, the newborn label managed by Baldini himself and reggae band Mellow Mood. To celebrate the birth of the label, the band announced a handful of Italian headline shows at the end of November. Paolo Baldini DubFIles will perform as aftershow alongside some very special guest who will be announced soon.
