Wicked Woods 2024

This mix is about LOVE in its purest form. Choosing love, even when it's hard. Especially when it’s hard.

The last few years through and post-pandemic have been tough. Many are still recovering mentally, and societal issues like inflation and capitalism’s failures add to the strain. I’ve been through my own challenges, as one of my partners became very ill due to medical malpractice. Thankfully, she’s improving, thanks to me in spite if the system.

But through it all, I realized I had a choice: to be angry and blame the world, or to choose love. With healthy boundaries and without bypassing real issues, I’ve learned that happiness is a choice. It’s a practice that gets easier with time, and I now see it as a moral obligation.

This doesn’t mean ignoring emotions or practicing toxic positivity. Feeling emotions fully is important. But when I don’t choose love and optimism—whether for myself or others—things always get worse. 

So I began practicing little things, like taking a breath (or six), specifically a physiological sigh, and doing something as silly as snapping my fingers or imagining a director saying, “Action!” And just like that, I could flip the script. It was surprising how quickly I could shift from anger or frustration to love, compassion, and optimism for myself and others, even at their worst.

The best part? The more I did it, the less it felt like “faking it.” There’s something to the idea of “fake it ‘til you make it,” but honestly, I was shocked at how fast my brain rewired itself. Just a snap of the fingers and I could flip from stress or anger to love. All thanks to some inspiration I got from watching Mo Gawdat on “The Diary of a CEO” (great podcast, terrible name). His insights helped me turn things around, and despite all the trauma and uncertainty, I found myself happier—and with even more love to share.

I want to share this practice with you, because many people struggle with the self-love necessary to be happy in hard times. As you listen to this nearly two-hour mix of inspirational liquid Drum & Bass, I challenge you to sing along—not just with friends, but to yourself. When was the last time you sang yourself a love song? Told yourself you’ll be your own light, that you won’t let yourself down, and that you’ll make things right for YOU?

Loving yourself is the greatest gift you can give to the world. While it’s possible to love others without fully loving yourself, self-love magnifies the love you share and receive. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

So let’s fill our cups until they overflow and we need to start using a bowl. I’ve got a Huge Metal one for us to use right here <3
