"AMBIDEXTROUS. The electro-plasticky sculptural sonic opera that invites you in & out & in again. Presented in first-person, at other times in third but ALWAYS out-of-body. Like a beat up stroboscope slamming into a Walt Disney number, raggedy abstracted cartoonish characters are pumped, plumped & squashed into the adhoc scenery. A tree is now a paint tube or maybe a shoe horn but only because it has to be until it isn't, or maybe it never will be for you. Very filmy, sometimes flimsy and on occassion chunky; presenting to you, actual variety. Definitely not a tidy digital affair...you can hear the tape bias deep breathing & hasty splices popping with an immediacy that does not waste time to tinker. Shattered bronze becomes the glue, the glue becomes your dinner companion as well as the plate & window seat. Not unlike a Goldilocks and the Three Bears scenario, depending on your moody attention span, you may find certain characteristics to be too something or not enough something but perhaps just right. Open for interpretation & again for re-interpretation - this monument gives what you take."

Lemon Test are a Berlin-based crew of like-minded music heads Liebherr, Guy Nicki and JennaJ. Renowned for their extensive mix collection from the very forefront of the electronic game, their label continues to curate some of the most exciting newcomers and innovators for special EPs. Special EPs like this…

Their sixth edition, and it could be Lemon Test’s sharpest flavour to date. ‘Lonely Water’ comes courtesy of Eira Haul. You won’t recognise the name, this is his debut, but you may well have raved with him at his legendary Berlin party Lustgarten… For years a loved and well-trusted fixture on the Berlin scene — with a vibe of free-form energy.

The same can be said for this EP; a woozy brew of breakbeats and tempos, ‘Lonely Water’ features three originals from the Berlin artist and taps into that bottomless melting pot of hardcore, jungle, dub and breaks that almost all rave is founded on. The title track takes the lead with rolling kicks and a chopped up vocal before switching up with a savage acid line at the peak. It’s backed by ‘Survivor’. Slightly more informed by classic electro, the tempo is a touch faster but the mood is a whole tonne darker. Finally, we hit ‘Lorica’. Full strength jungle business, with strong nods to Moving Shadow or Krome & Time in the rampant breaks and big emotional pads.

The remixes are just as weighty. Taking things back to the techno context that Lemon Test likes to subvert. Friend of the label Ryan James Ford whips up a half-time, rolling juggernaut while Liebherr goes to town on the breakbeats for a soulful, deep dream finale. Stunning stuff in all directions... Lemon Test brings the goods once again.
