Noah Lyas is the pseudonym for the electronic music made by ceramicist Malii Yorks. Drums, rhythms and the feel of them are for him the most interesting aspects within musical compositions. Whether it is complex or very simple, rhythms will set things in motion, not necessarily the body when it is dancing, but also your inner self.

Noah Lyas, read ‘no alias’, is a name that is given to the concept of having an alter-ego but still questioning if you are someone else, or not.

For our eight instalment we’ve invited XÂRTE, a talented young DJ coming from the Netherlands.

His musical journey started at the end of 2020 after a music-filled summer with friends. He started digging deeper into the world of techno before he eventually decided to get himself some gear and started DJing. Since that day his musical progress has graced renowned venues like BASIS and The Melkweg, and he's caught the attention of organizations like ALU and Ypnotika.  

His sound is a captivating blend of rhythms and deep, abstract textures, and by layering records, they craft a vibe that immerses the dance floor in an unforgettable musical experience.

Some words by XÂRTE about his mix:
This set is a musical journey inspired by my unforgettable visit to Draaimolen festival this year. The Aura stage was a captivating realm where numerous DJs left an indelible mark on my soul. The fusion of lights, ambiance, and the music, reached deep into my body and provoked some emotions within me.

Among the remarkable performances, the influence of Arkajo and Dorisburg's set stands out most prominent. Their music resonated with me in a unique way, leaving an imprint on my creative spirit that I couldn't ignore. 

This set is a tribute to the magic of what happend at Draaimolen festival, and in patricular that night in the forest at the stage called Aura.

HYPNOSIS 008 XÂRTE

Bulgarian dark mastermind MANASYt（Petar Tassev) has been rocking his own brand of Nurolektro since 2003. He’s responsible for a vast array of menacing titles on labels such as Bunker, Touchin' Bass, Kommando 6, Musar and about 40 other labels worldwide.
An artist that couldn’t care less about trends nor hypes, and whose main driving force is that authentic passion for the genre.
Some of his tunes resemble a future horror movie soundtrack, others a visit to a mental clinic but most sound like what exactly hostile aliens would listen to while attacking Earth.
Currently based in Xiamen, China.

Morpha — московский диджей, продюсер, резидент команды Sacred Sound и часть комьюнити Subspace. Его музыка выходила на мексиканских лейблах KVLTŐ и Sequences Temporales, голландском Profundo Collective. В этом году Morpha выпустил винил на лондонском лейбле Crescent London и записал микс для крупной серии подкастов в стиле гипнотик техно — Hypnus Records. 

«Я долгое время писал в стилях эмбиент и гипнотик техно. Сейчас выхожу за эти границы и в скором времени будет несколько работ в 170 bpm. Одна из них вошла в микс для Paragraphs. Мой ориентир — ненагруженное, мягкое, но при этом динамичное звучание. Люблю эмбиент-текстуры и булькающие гипнотик-басы».

Morpha is a Moscow DJ, producer and resident of the Sacred Sound team. His music was released on the Mexican labels KVLTŐ and Sequences Temporales, and the Dutch Profundo Collective. This year, Morpha released vinyl on London's Crescent London label and recorded a mix for a major hypnotic techno podcast series, Hypnus Records.

“I have been writing in ambient and hypnotic techno styles for a long time. Now I’m going beyond these boundaries and soon there will be several works at 170 bpm. One of them was included in the mix for Paragraphs. My reference point is an unloaded, soft, but at the same time dynamic sound. I love ambient textures and gurgling, hypnotic bass.”

RON L is part of Embodiment, an organization that focusses on different spectrums of electronic music and is originally based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. For the past few get-togethers they set foot in Amsterdam to further explore the Dutch scene and to inspire the participants with a challenging sound.

With this recording RON L wanted to translate the past and the present into a set. DJ-ing for over 5 years he came in contact with several styles within electronic music and RON L thought this was a great moment to dig deeper into his music collection to create a trip down memory lane to build an emotional bond with the audience while also remaining in the present using some recent releases.

"I wanted this mix to be dark and… almost boring. With repetitive noises, echoes, without any breakdowns or groove. To bring back the sound from times when techno was a form of almost a rebellion, played in dark basements and warehouses - with poor lighting and with people wearing plain comfortable clothes. It’s again this idea of a party where the DJ is invisible, and the only thing they do is make people forget about the reality."

Bio: 
ona:v is a Polish-born DJ, producer and promoter with an ear for textural techno and dark electro. A scientist by day and a DJ by night, the Edinburgh-based artist is an integral figure in her locale, both as a DJ and through event curation.

Having built an extensive track collection for several years, ona:v debuted on Edinburgh’s club circuit in 2019, with bookings across the UK making up her diary since. On home turf, ona:v plays regular gigs in Scotland’s biggest venues, having supported Ben Klock, SLAM, Fjaak, Anne, Isabel Soto, Clouds, EKATA and many others. Outside of Scotland, she closed for Clouds and Randomer at The Cause, played at London’s Risen and Necropolis Festivals and in Berlin’s Mensch-Meier and About Blank. 2022 saw her Polish debut, and in 2021/22 she streamed from Berlin’s HÖR Radio. More recently, for two years in a row, she headlined the basement stage curated by Sisu at Hidden Door — a prolific visual art and music festival in Edinburgh, and performed multiple times at Scotland’s biggest festival – Terminal V.

In 2020, ona:v founded EPiKA, and started promoting EPiKA’s bi-monthly party called CiRCLE in Edinburgh. Here, she creates a nurturing environment for beginner female and non-binary DJs playing more underground flavours of electronics, with focus on techno. She also garners a radio residency on London’s Threads Radio and is an internal member and a resident DJ with the Sisu crew. Production-wise, she has released techno and electro tracks on multiple compilations and released her debut EP, Response to the Techno Crisis, on Diffuse Reality in 2022.
