Downtempo, also known as chill-out or downbeat emerged in the 1990's as music played in the chill-out zones of electronic music events around Ibiza. Downtempo refers to a wide variety music of a slow tempo, usually slower than the related AND influential genre of trip hop, but unlike ambient music, usually has a beat or groove more complicated and present in the foreground. Much like what was happening in the 90's, today Downtempo is usually a feature of chill-out zones in electronic music events and epeccially psychedelic trance festivals, except that there is now a growing number of downtempo-only events taking place in a variety of countries such as France, Russia and Brazil. Downtempo music today has become closely linked with the psychedelic electronic music scene and many artists producing downtempo today refer to their music as "psy-chill", "psybient" or even "temple-bass". Dhawa Sunrise is the first Outtallectuals compilation that was partially released as a sustainability fundraiser, used for rural development in Nepal. The funds from the first 2 years of sales from this album went towards rebuilding a school in Dhawa, a rural village in Nepal, and creating a science lab for the school.
