Episode 457 brings us a mix from R-Hawk!

R-Hawk's mix is full of classics from the golden era of jungle, amazing selection, expertly mixed, such a VIBE on this one!! This one will be getting tons of rewinds!

Let's meet our dj for episode 457, R-Hawk:
Robbie Hawkings, or R-Hawk for short, is a Bristol based DJ with 30 years behind the decks. 



First, learning to play at home in the early 90's, he shortly landed a regular spot at the UFO Club, held at the Longleat Estate near Warminster, as a warm up DJ in 1995. The UFO Club was known for having big acts roll through; from Grooverider and Jumping Jack Frost, to other acts, like Carl Cox and Eat Static. 



Moving to Sheffield in 1996, he continued playing regular shows, starting with the Corporation night club from 1999 to 2000, and then back in Bristol played at various club parties in venues like Thekla and Lakota, opening for The Insiders at TimBuk2 for Intrigue’s 2nd birthday party, and more recently, parties for Western Lore, Dissonance, Optimystic & Friends and Jungle on Wax.



R-Hawk's been playing on internet radio for around 7 years; his first few shows on GlobalDnB.com in 2015, then with OnlyOldSkoolRadio.com, where he's maintained a weekly show since 2018 and also joining the DJ roster for jungletrain.net in 2020 with his fortnightly Xpresha show. 



He's also part of the crew for a Facebook Group called, "The Junglist_list" or TJL for short, which is collective mix of EDM, embracing the sounds of Hardcore, Jungle, Drum and Bass, Acid, Techno, House, and more.

"R-Hawk's selection preferences range from works originating in '92, all the way to present day, but for this podcast he has focused on old skool jungle."

SUMMER OF '96 | Mixtape sampler | Dizzy

My name is Dan aka Johnny Clash and I’ve been around for a while and I like and play all kinds of music. This is very much a jungle mix though not quite entirely and I believe it will take you on a journey, which is DJ talk for it’s a mess but I think it just about hangs together.

A big thank you to my good friend the lovely Uncommon Sense who introduced me to a few of the key players in this mix, and in fact was the one who brought Foot Long Records along to hear me play out. So it’s her fault. Shout out to my main northern hangout Stumblefunk ‘le fluff diabolique’ which has been the location, literally and emotionally (can I say spiritually? yeah, let’s say spiritually as well) for many of the shenanigans which have led up to this moment. I met King Chuga at a Retro Trax festival around 10 years ago, when me and MC Cox had heard he had also done a winning mix in a competition to get a set at Bowlers for a Retro Trax night and hunted him down there.

We had also listened to two of his mixes around that time, I must have listened to both these mixes 100`s of times.

Both these mixes are made up of tracklists by Raving Rod, who is King Chugas partner, and a jungle afficionado in her own right !

King Chuga has been a great help to me in my jungle career so far, and this mix shows why its important to have good people around you if you want to progress, as the mix is really good ! :)

Been DJing since 1995, mainly Drum & Bass and Jungle but have held down residencies at various House/Hard House nights in and around Oxford from 1997 to 2002. Started a regular radio show on Nu Perception Radio in 2012, then moved to Jungletrain in 2016 and in 2019 moved over to Energy1058 where I currently host The Jungle/Drum & Bass Show every Sat night 8-9pm (UK). 

I’ve had lots of musical influences in my life so far, Doc Scott, Tony De Vit, Total Science, Boymerang, Steve Thomas, Dillinja plus many more. I started making music around 2014 and have released music on King Bass Recordings, Foot Long Records and Energy1058 Recordings with lots more releases planned in the future.

We´ve been following Lee Croucher aka Sync Dynamix from the very start when
he started building Good 2 Go DMR in 2019. The label is now going from
strength to strength with releases by Blame, DJ Sappo, Dan Silk, InnerCore,
Renegade HZ, Ruff Jam, Juic-E, Lavery, Code Of Silence, Arkyn and many other
talented artists and nearly 20 releases deep. We are very proud to now bring
you his very first solo EP and the first outing outside of his own label.

'The Machine' originally came out on the 'Outer Echo' EP as the flipside to Blame´s
massive 'Check It Out Remix' and due to that was probably a bit overlooked, we
strongly suggest you check that out too! Being our favorite of him alongside
'Sound' we asked if Lee would be willing to remix it for us he was straight into
the idea and delivered this in no time. We love the the skipping breaks over the
thumping riddim track and the progression the track goes through, from the
lighter part with the ‚I make euphoria‘ vocal to that dark lightsaber-style
second break.
