Our latest Podcast chapter comes in the form of a mesmerising all-vinyl set by the Spanish duo Binomi, interweaving experimental, psychedelic and avant-garde ambient music from across the decades with personal field recordings. Recorded live at the Hangar in Barcelona as part of the 2023 edition of Mostra, it is a dreamy two-hour sound adventure sprinkled thorough with the dusty film of gentle record crackles and pensive undertone. 

"How to translate a friendship of more than 10 years into a mix? After a long coexistence, the pandemic represents a hiatus in our musical relationship. Mostra23 is the perfect excuse and the best stage to resume it. A new sound has emerged in us, complicity, laughter, and goosebumps confirm it. The set configured with 3 turntables and accompanied by field recordings made in Australia and Tasmania form a soundtrack of shared sensations across the distance. Through genres, we define our experiences; new age, drone, experimental or avant-garde music, minimalism, and psychedelia can be its labels. Who knows, we just hope it transports you to places as distant or as close as those it evokes for us. It has been a real pleasure."

Binomi are Jordi Aparicio and Joan Gila, both from Tarragona, Spain. Avid collectors of records, their search for sound brought them together in Barcelona more than a decade ago.

MEZZ is presenting a new series of hypnotic electronics in HYPNO and gives room to DJ’s and producers to dive into the depths of trippy house and space techno. The first edition took place on the 28th of June with @aspetuck and @humanspacemachine.

London native, Barcelona resident, Josh Hoppen (@joshhoppen) is a seasoned DJ, crate digger and part of the team behind Mostra festival (@mostrabcn). Taking his cues from years immersed in dance music culture, his sets unravel connections between genres, where moody soundscapes and atmospheric techno clear a path for crisp breaks and crackling jungle. Josh is also the founder of Seasoned Sound, an exploration project digging through the diverse worlds of jazz, funk, soul and disco to unearth the roots of electronic dance music.

In the infinite silence before time, there was a hum. It was not a sound yet—just the potential, curled within the quantum foam, waiting to break free. A vibration, folded like the light inside a black hole, travelling faster than the future, slower than the past.

When it escaped, it didn’t move forward; it spiralled backwards into the now, threading itself into every molecule, every wave. It whispered to atoms, nudging them into a rhythm, coaxing particles to dance.

The sound remembered tomorrow, long before it happened.

And in that echo, the universe heard itself for the first time.

Obsessed with music’s transcendent nature from an early age, Adrian Rennie has a passion for sound and its ability to take you to another place. A journey in extraordinary reality. Citing the interestingly popular liminalism movement as a collective need to temporarily escape the insane modern world, finding release in complex simplicity. 
Under the name Forward Memory, he releases deep and hypnotic techno, electro and ambient plus remixes, on various labels including RF Records, MIG, Madah Sounds and Woodwork Recordings.
