DJ CZ Live at Parameter Instance 02 [7.10.2015]

sel.6 graces the 909 mix series this week a harder session that allowed the miami gem to ‘pump some techno/clubby stuff that i haven’t had a chance to really play out lately’. not one for the faint hearted, the fast and furious mix dips between moments of boisterous rhythms, early detroit influences, jacking energy and a sprinkling of warm euphoria for good measure. all neatly wrapped up with that florida heat. 

over the last few years, miami has returned to the forefront of underground dance music as its hotbed of ridiculous local talent came to the forefront with sel.6 part of that wave. the wealth of miami’s scene was showcased across the homecore! miamis all star compilation curated by danny daze in 2022, bridging together house music legends to idm and hip hop pioneers. this rich historical context is what makes sel.6 stands out as she taps into those who were before her to create a sound that pushes things forward with her productions drawing from r&b, electro, breaks, hardgroove and jungle. jumpstarting her career with the self-released desire series before landing on the city’s famed space tapes imprint, sel.6 has since landed on physical therapy’s allergy season, omnidisc and most recently impacto including a collaboration with coffintexts and a remix from jubilee.

✨🤲✨ Here’s a set recording at one of the last of a festival-filled summer: @sustain-release-nyc

No set theme/mood, just a journey thru a bunch of tunes I really do love and hoped people would enjoy; but to quote my girl @livwutang, it was rooted in a love for Black music (this mix cover was taken by her during the set <3). Stitching together threads of dubstep, jazz, house, breaks, garage, hip hop, dub, etc.

At some points this kinda feels more like a beat tape with selector style mixing + no long blends. A lil fusion of tired/nervous/letting the tunes shine

Thank you @itsallhalal + the rest of the team for the opportunity to close The Gym on Fri night and for looking after me. And ofc out to the amazingly welcoming dancers inside ❤️

MK closing set @ Sustain-Release Festival [NY, Sept '25]

we’re returning to kune festival today for the third edition in our collaboration where we will be sharing the sets and stories from their fifth edition earlier this year - taking a deeper dive into the scenes, sounds and style of the festival.

this week we’re spotlighting another århus gem and safe distro affiliate, alpo. previously working under the alias ‘the interest’, alpo is another one of those artists who unearths the most beautiful gems and binds them together in a way that wraps you within a spell. from twinkling, blissful downtempo and ambient to the subterranean elements of old school drum & bass and the immersive and bubbly energy of tech house and electro - his mixes has it all! and his opening set on the vessel stage is no different. starting the proceedings on an early thursday evening, alpo’s set is a playful workout of the sound and styles that make up the festival. bridging together all of his influences to create the perfect party atmosphere, the set is an exercise in long-form euphoria.

The past 2-3 days have been the first time when the air has felt chilly and crisp. In a gentle way, though, that you only really get in the Fall. Sometimes, I almost mistake the feeling of it for the first warmer breezes of spring, but it's not the same. I handed in my thesis a week ago and find myself becoming more and more able to be present and notice that the weather and my surroundings have shifted. In that sense, I'm lucky to have finished my thesis now — I am going through changes, and so are the seasons. We can relate a bit.

I thought it would be a huge relief to hand in my work, but as it turns out, my body and my head need time to wind down and sort out all the stress that's been running through me. I haven't felt able to play music in a while because I have been so used to the meticulous, perfectionist work on my thesis and have been a bit hard on myself. But today I really felt like it, and it felt terrific to record. I took Otto, the friendly, curious and loving dog that I am taking care of at the moment (yes, that is also one of the reasons why I am feeling better and better!) and walked to Kin with him. Kin is a new record store in Aarhus that some friends and I have opened. It has become a really comfortable and welcoming space, and being there makes me feel excited about music and creating together.

I dusted off some old records and took out some completely new ones made by friends, and it resulted in this mix. As I was recording, I felt the relief I had hoped for, and I just had some good old fun. I hope it comes across :)

The essence of psychedelia is disrupting expectations and altering perspectives - what better place to do so than in the vortex of the rave? 

It was an incredible honor to be a part of the inaugural edition of System Activate. The entire weekender campout rave was an exercise in intentionality, a generous labor of love with visionary execution. Anchored by a single stage with a pristine sound system, brought to life by a seasoned, die-hard-DIY team, and animated with an incredibly unpretentious, open-minded, and imaginative crowd of ravers, System Active was truly a novel, eye-opening adventure that struck real sparks of psychedelic inspiration. 

I believe this is one of the finest sets that I have played to date. Completely at ease in the booth, I played fervently and completely from the heart. This is a totally honest and unrestrained rendition of my creative screwball sensibilities as a DJ, conjuring a propulsive rhythmic tunnel and peeling away into moments of whiplash slack-jawed surprises. Rooted in wormhole-traversing techno but stretching well into psychedelic sludge, shameless sentimentality, poignant lessons, heaving bass-weight, and references to formative personally-precious material, this is a completely earnest translation of my psyche that also incorporates the work of friends and peers. 

It was a deep joy to be in the company of so many brilliant and clever dancefloor scramblers and dear friends as I landed us in dawn's first light. I am deeply grateful for this experience, and excited to share this transmission from the vortex.
