Ever been to a Turntables on the Hudson party at the Frying Pan? I feel like I've gained & lost many things there. Grateful forever for all the things we've gained, including the friendships, inspiration, love, music etc... Definitely lost some records, CD's, people in the crowd that were meant to meet only in that shared joyous occasion. One time we lost & found a man who swam to New Jersey! I even got lost myself one time while packing up locked in overnight until the next day. The party was there on & off for almost 15 years & this compilation & time capsule vinyl, CD, flyer, photo, documentary package includes some of these great moments in music & vibes, pulled out the bottom of the Hudson in 2021. We hope you enjoy the memories & discover new music that was either never released or only available on vinyl/ CD. You have the complete Bandcamp only version right here. Paper Recordings hits its 20th birthday in 2014 and most labels would sensibly sit down in an armchair, light their pipe and release a retrospective. But not us, oh no! Our very first release The Book by Salt City Orchestra had “Look Forward, Not Back” inscribed on the vinyl so this has been the year we launched Paper Disco and why Papercuts # 2 is packed choc-a-bloc with a new generation of artists.

The compilation is the best of Paper’s recent output with a mixture of the familiar, the grizzled and the brand new, demonstrating why Paper is still one of the most exciting house labels in the world today.

There are four exclusive unreleased cuts which are all here.

Richard Seaborne is our go-to man and always delivers. Here's its stripped back house with touches of Detroit and Chicago that pumps like a steam engine (if indeed they do pump) and a moody female vocal extolling her trip on the MDMA Express.

Recent Norwegian Grammy award winner Ralph Myerz gives us a taste of what to expect from his forthcoming album with Do The Choka Choka that is a peak time full floor houser.

Psychemagik's unreleased mix of Research's Day By Day is a lesson in grown up house music that kills the floor and has a subtle musicality that draws on a range of influences from the disco and balearic.

Finally Pete Gooding goes for a straight up thumping version of Justin Harris' 123 Breathe. After all, when you've got damn fine drums, killer bass, moody vox and hooky bass you may as well let it do its thing!

Following up on Paris DJs tradition of reworking songs using only their vocal part to build a brand new intrumental to back it, Parisian Ehio-Jazz band Akalé Wubé has decided to try their organic jazz chops on an a cappela from Chicago MC RacecaR.

Originally produced by Grant Phabao as an unstoppable afro-funk-hip-hop monster, this new 'Return Of The Dig-Fu (Akalé Wubé Remix)' keep its rhymes evoking the digger's lust for the vinyl rare groove, but replaces the afrofunk with some deep, smokey jazz. The soothing flute solo near the end confirms the first impression: there's a blazing sense of purpose here.

Akalé Wubé's loose vibes and RacecaR nervous wordplay fit together so nicely that more collaborations have already started to happen, in the studio and on stage. They'll be playing together on december 11th at Le Studio de l'Ermitage, after a first date together a few months ago. It's not a last minute warning so don't miss this joyous moment next week !
