Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation - Sister Green Eyes (Single Version)

To coincide with their up & coming tour, Josefin Öhrn +
The Liberation will be releasing a reworked version of
their sultry album track, “Sister Green Eyes”, this will
be the bands third single from their much lauded album
2016 album Mirage.

Right from the outset, “Sister Green Eyes” sensuously
throbs to a more Eastern drive, with an sedated ‘Velvets’
droned melody, a fluctuating groove straight out of the
‘CAN’ little black book, it flirts around with the hue of a
half-goned tranced-out Siouxsie Sioux .

Richly hypnotic, the tribal procession of the tracks
groove, more predominant than the album version,
enamelled with Josefin’s almost broken breathless
vocals, progresses like an oscillating raga as if the
man machine spirit of recently deceased
Jaki Liebezeit was soundtracking an eyelid movie.

As the band explains “Sister Green Eyes” was inspired
by the Japanese word “Shinrinyoku” which is
sometimes translated and often described as
“Forest Bathing”, where submersing oneself so deeply
into the atmosphere of the forest or in the band’s
case, the Swedish ‘Ocean and Mountains’, that the
experience is rejuvenating and restorative so showing
you a way that can often seem lost or out of reach and
Josefin’s vocals encapsulate that.

The drums for this song were recorded in Bow Lane studios by Robin Ball and taken from a live performance completed for the Press Record sessions. The rest of the instruments were recorded in Gavin Glass' Orphan Studios by Robin Ball before being mixed by Michael Heffernan at Lennox Street Studios. The track was mastered by Fergal Davis at Herbert Place Studios in Dublin.

‘With My Mind’ is the latest track to be released by London lo-fi dreamy-grunge quartet Lazy Day, following their now sold-out Record Store Day 2015 split 7” single with Tuff Love (‘Portait’ / ‘Groucho’), and last year’s 7” single ‘Disappear’ / ‘All The Time’ (watch the stunning video for ‘Disappear’ here). It will be released as a PostMap postcard single on May 5, 2017, and comes with an acoustic version as an exclusive bonus. Lazy Day will play a special headline show at the Servant Jazz Quarters in London on Tuesday, May 9.

From Glasgow’s fertile DIY punk scene come Breakfast Muff, a thrillingly uncompromising pop trio who will be releasing a double a-side single Babyboomers/R U A Feminist on Amour Foo Records in May. 

The songs are about sexuality, feminism and feelings and are an all-round giant dose of fun. Bandmates Eilidh McMillan (Rapid Tan, Joanna Gruesome), Simone Wilson (Hairband, Mary Column) and Cal Donnelly (Spinning Coin, Rapid Tan) switch between guitar, bass and drums in a cacophony of anxiety, celebration and creativity.

Breakfast Muff - Baby Boomers

Initially emerging in 2011, Valerian Swing cemented their place as one of most interesting bands in the Italian heavy scene, with their second album "A Sailor Lost Around The Earth", and then at an international level with 2014’s ‘Aurora’. 

Now 2017 sees the return of Valerian Swing following a change of personnel. One that saw the exit of bassist Alan Ferioli in favour of baritone guitarist Francesco Giovanetti. The trio went and created their fourth full length album, during a period of personnel, artistic growth and maturity that has seen them gradually expand their spectrum of sound beyond the boundaries of just being ‘heavy’. This latest chapter has resulted in new album ‘Nights’ that is undoubtedly their most accessible, rich and varied record to date. 

Composed last summer over a relatively short time period (by their standards) and recorded at the turn of 2016 in Bologna and Reggio Emilia, ’Night’s saw the band work with long time friend and sound engineer Raffaele Marchetti. Mixing of was handled by Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Isis, Botch, Russian Circles, Caspian) at Red Room Recording in Seattle. 

‘Nights' is a record that showcases Valerian Swing’s sublime technique and speed but unlike previous albums the aim was to focus more on the melodic construction of their songs and less on the extreme. The result is an album that explores more expansive post-rock, rhythmic and cinematic sounds. 

At certain points throughout ‘Nights’ especially with the added vocal elements, some tracks verge into experimental pop territory, an area the band were unafraid to visit. The influence of new baritone guitarist F. Giovanetti (and synths) on Valerian Swing is evident. His place in the band allowed guitarist/vocalist Stefano Villani to lead them in a more free way allowing for experimentation with computers, electronics, processed vocals and devices different from the guitar. 

Having played all over the world, including the SXSW, and having shared stages with bands of the caliber of Russian Circles, Boris and This Town Needs Guns, Valerian Swing will bring their eclectic ’Nights' in concert, first in Europe from the end of April - including a slot at Colossal Weekend in Copenhagen with Deafheaven, Oxbox and many others. 

’Nights' will be released in UK via Small Pond on 12th May. The band are set to tour in April with Alpha Male Tea Party:
