Apt E returns with a pair of lengthy cosmic transmissions from Seattle-based electronic outfit, Tape.

A - Escape Your Shape wades through swampy guitars and modulated jitters before entering a boundless collage of stretchy, acid-bound funk wahs and spacy rhythms launched toward the horizon. Along the way, shifting shapes, dancing chords and washed out motifs swirl around until they’re released into the ether, only to elegantly reenter orbit before dematerializing once more. The jam rebounds one final time, wringing out the final traces of euphoria, before landing gently after the nearly 12 minute long trip.

B - Flip Your Trip hits the ground running; relentless drums take off in tandem with deep analog modulations as higher frequencies slowly creep onto the canvas. Frenzied electronics emerge from underneath blankets of delay while sweeping atmospherics expand and contract with the heavy tides of guitar and droning bass. The vortex erodes to a sticky whirl before drifting back to the surface, entering and exiting a series of cosmic passages until finally being abducted by an arpeggio vacuum and fully melting down after 14 minutes.

Alien D (@aliendan) is one of the many production monikers of Sweat Equity NYC (@sweat-equity) founder, Dan Creahan. Dan is a prominent character in New York's nightlife community - master of thoughtful tangents about anything, and a widely favorite dancefloor smile, Dan keeps a reassuring humor in his stride that manifests both musically and energetically. 

Dan describes his Hodgepodge mix by saying “In a more general sense, is that it's definitely mostly coming from terrestrial radio airwaves. If I'm renting a car or taking a road trip, I generally like to let the radio run as opposed to popping in an Aux. There's something to be said for letting the local environs sort of seep into your trip in that way. A lot of these probably come from WFMU/WKCR, but there's definitely some very odd characters mixed in – a couple film scans, some co-habitation digs, etc. I also generally do not Shazam techno or club music, usually, I'm too deep in the sauce to really scan while I'm out, so the playlist here definitely reflects me out "in the world" or something of the sort.”

Noah Prebish’s cover art captures the whimsical yet reverent nature of terrestrial radio, situating Dan as an AM/FM pioneer, climbing and chopping his way to an audio freedom that comes from “surfing” the channels.

140 is the bpm I am truly comfortable in. If I go higher I am ramping it up. Slower than 140bpm is basically downtempo

What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

Climax - these women are making their own space and crafting their own vibe in the current techno paradigm. Their mission and ethics are on point, while their music tastes reside outside of time.

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

Post capitalism. Humans gathered all the gun supply on Earth, loaded it on a big spaceship and sent it off into the cosmos. The rich are abolished. Reparations have been paid. Therapy has been mandatory for yt men for a few decades now. There is no such thing anymore as a “bedroom producer”, we record our music directly from our brains. Rave Etiquette and Rave History are the subjects studied in middle-school. There is no talk at the raves in the front of the dance floor - we have telepathy for that. DJing as a craft remains the same because it has always been ahead of its time.
