As the warm autumnal colours of copper, russet and ochre turn to muted monochrome palettes, hues of icy blue and opaque crystal usher in a seasonal compilation that bursts through slate grey skies in sparkling sunlight, cascading sonic reflections across the underground dance scene.

"Winter Particles 2018" draws together a collection of artists that traverse the globe from North and South America to Africa, Asia and Europe. An assemblage of subtle and beautiful tunes is brought together that epitomises the Particles ethos – showcasing established artists and highlighting aspiring newcomers in an aural collage of electronic sound.

The arrival of seasonal shift sees shafts of light reach out into the shadows and dust. A mote sparkles in the bright light; caught in light breeze it drifts gently in hypnotic patterns. The presence of a filtered arpeggio takes a similar path, rising and falling in effortless waves. A piano note hits, cascading repeatedly into eternity as a growling bassline creates perfect juxtaposition; a liquid ink sky lit up by a carpet of luminous pinpricks.

Summer's petrichor a distant memory amidst the icy shards that cling to bare branches, the snow-swept ridges keep their secret of once green and rolling hilltops. Winter's zeitgeist is firmly held within pulsating rhythms and melodies to warm the soul. The acceleration of time brings with it a new musical direction and impulse for change. Elevated to new heights, shimmering percussive intent casts a spell of hidden energy, an electrical charge and dynamic spirit. The fusion or organic and electronic sounds are crystal clear in invigorating sonic shapes and patterns.

Heading for the winter trip, heading for the slide. A mountain isn't far to fall when you're falling from a silhouetted moon.

Ukrainian duo Woo York deliver a powerful, driving, dark-yet-sophisticated sound on their upcoming ‘Chasing The Dream’ LP, set to drop on May 4 as the first artist album on Afterlife.

Opening with the brooding and thought-provoking cosmic stabs of the aptly titled ‘Inception’, Woo York guide you through a fluid-like path across ‘Chasing the Dream’, offering fluttering synths on ‘Walk Along The Rainbow’ and a rattling percussive core to ‘There Is A Light.’ Their signature 303 magic hints at acid on ‘Through Peaks and Valleys’, and there is ice-cold ambience to finish in ‘Rise’ and an alternate mix of the title track. Swiss production wizard Andrea Oliva returns to Hot Creations this October with a solid three-track EP that oozes a fierce and fiery rhythm.

Title track Upside Down fires up the EP from the off with its growling bassline and elements of glitchy goodness. Piano Not Piano juxtaposes hi-hats against the thud of the industrial bass, adding piano chords and a drop of acid. The EP closes with Sound Like That, a groovy roller with a distorted vocal stab. Discussing the EP, Andrea explains that he wanted to “have influences of acid, house and techno, supported by solid grooves”, also revealing that he is “very happy to be back on the label with three diverse tracks”.

A mainstay on the White Isle and with appearances at Tomorrowland, Sunwaves, Sonus, Medusa, Kappa Futur and DGTL, Andrea Oliva is one of the industry’s most in-demand DJs. In 2016 he was invited by Radio 1’s Pete Tong to record a coveted Essential Mix, which was live from Ushuaia. Last year he also made his Boiler Room debut, as well as performing Mixmag’s Lab and DJ Mag sessions. He’s released on respected imprints such as Desolat, Knee Deep In Sound, Saved, Moon Harbour and Relief and has remixed for a plethora of high-profile artists. Now with this latest Hot Creations release, Oliva’s career shows no sign of slowing down.

Coming in hot off their latest Watergate Mix Adana Twins deliver their first EP stemming from the mix itself putting what could be the standout track off the compilation: their remix of Patrice Bäumel’s ‘Roar' front and center. Taking the hugely successful original which could be considered as much a tool as it is a peak time bomb, the duo twist the initial anthem into a climactic, euphoric ride by adding their signature percussion and shimmers of melody while utilizing the original’s spine tingling tension to create an absolutely massive and memorable dance floor experience. 

Flipping to the B-side, Adana Twins present ‘Aufstand der Massen’ where they dive into the ethereal corners of dramatic Techno reminiscent of the ‘Jupiter’ EP from early this year creating a flawlessly executed trip into enchanted territory.
