Episode 026 & Malaga, Spain based Mateo Quiles (@mateoquilesmusic), interview below:

BSV: Hello Mateo! Thank you for contacting us with your session request. Obviously you enjoyed the previous episode, so you wanted to be a part of our story.
MATEO QUILES: I am very grateful for this opportunity, I met you when my friend Mass Digital shared that fantastic set for you.  It's amazing that my session is next to yours.

BSV: As an old school DJ, is it difficult to adapt to current electronic music trends? Are you in progressive mode from the beginning?
MATEO QUILES: It has not been difficult for me, since I have never disconnected from the musical world.  I have been adapting over the years according to the style I felt the most at that time. I started with Breakbeat and Electro until 2006, I continued with Minimal-Techno and Hard Techno until 2014 where I lost that spark. Feeling that Progressive gave me from the first moment I discovered it and where I hope to be until my retirement.

BSV: So you play breakbeat also? Asking for your last track in the mix (pretty).
MATEO QUILES: In my sessions I always like to end with a special track, be it vocal or Break.  I discovered a group called Framewerk who do an amazing break very old school style and they suit my sets very well. They have a label called Capital Heaven where you find authentic jewels. My latest track in particular is by Distant Fragment, also some classics that just released an EP on this label.

BSV: You are a member of the ''Malaga Progressive Space'' movement.  Do you host parties these days?
MATEO QUILES: At this moment no, we are looking to 2022 so that normality is safe and we can hold events again.  Since the pandemic, I reconverted the label into doing radio shows to promote the artists that appeared on my tracklists.  And the truth is that I am very happy since they have an incredible reception every month that keeps my motivation high in these difficult times.

BSV: Are you considering music production? DJ since 1998 must have a lot of listening experience.
MATEO QUILES: Very good question, my friend, the truth is that the production never caught my attention.  I loved going to buy vinyl at music stores.  I was 2 times in London shopping and it was crazy incredible, I was used to have 2 stores in my city, and in London I entered at least 20 !!  Maybe if 15/20 years ago I knew that being a producer today is so important and that makes you have more open doors to succeed in music, I would not have thought about it.

BSV: Equipment that you used while recording this mixtape?
MATEO QUILES: For my sets at home I always use an easy setup, Macbook Pro + Traktor + Numark Controller.

BSV: Your idol DJ?
MATEO QUILES: My idol at the moment is Hernan Cattaneo, he holds the Progressive flag so tightly that he is admired all over the world for both his career and his closeness to the public.  
He is an example to follow.

BSV SESSION 026 I MATEO QUILES

Originally released in September 2021 on Proton Music, Rudy's 3-track "Substrate", showcased the UK producer's mesmerising melodic craftsmanship in vivid technicolour. A twin-track remix EP followed in March 2022 with sparkling reinterpretations from Erdi Irmak and Weird Sounding Dude. Now Particles also takes its turn in showcasing "Substrate" with a pair of remixes from German and Trinidadian artists.

A Berlin-based artist with a clutch of high-profile releases to his name, Vincent Gericke has found his distinctive blend of electronica and organic house gracing the likes of trndmsk, down. And Talpa Records. A further notable highlight can be found on "Harabe Daydreams I" as "Bathos" appeared on the Anatolian Sessions led imprint in late 2020.

Making intelligent use of the components from the original, Vincent Gericke's remix of "Different Line" quickly lights up the sonic horizon with familiar melodies and broken beat backdrop. Delicately sculpted synth motifs from Gericke's production arsenal weave their magic in stereo-panned glory as pulsating waves of sound drive forward in the second half in a delicate majesty.

Joshua Moreno is a relatively new name to grace the underground house scene. From the fast-growing town of Chaguanas in the west of Trinidad & Tobago, Joshua Moreno has established himself as a growing force. With a clutch of impressive releases and music signed to the likes of Immersed, Concrete Kin and Luscious Vibrations, Moreno has showcased a growing array of original music.

Now making his Particles debut, the Joshua Moreno interpretation of "Substrate" strikes a chord with a skipping, clicking groove that sits atop an emotive new melodic sequence. Harnessing the delicate piano motif of the original, Moreno provides sumptuous new production material that perfectly complements Rudy's track. A glassy arpeggio appears at the breakdown with a series of pad swells and string phrases, before the glorious groove and melodic patterns emerge once more to create a moment of sonic serenity.

With new layers of sound emerging from the "Substrate, Vincent Gericke and Joshua Moreno have succeeded in creating new formations from Rudy's work.

It's clear that Davor Tosovic is an accomplished and respected producer within the electronic music scene, and his latest release on Madloch's Crossfade Sounds imprint is a testament to his talents. The "Ambiance of Chord" EP showcases Tosovic's ability to craft compelling and immersive tracks that showcase the deeper sides of dubtechno, techno, and house music.

The EP's title track, "Ambiance of Chord," is a standout offering that blends subtle atmospheres with driving drums and pulsating basslines. It's a track that's sure to get any dancefloor moving, and it sets the tone for the rest of the EP.

The other three tracks on the EP continue in a similar vein, offering up a range of dynamic and immersive soundscapes that showcase Tosovic's prowess as a producer. Whether it's the deep and dubby "Moving Sounds" or the more upbeat and groovy "That Feeling" there's something for every underground music fan on this EP.
