Gavin Rochford - Zinc [3rd Avenue]

As Anton MAKe continued his assault on the underground dance scene, "Bulletproof" marked a new chapter in the Russian artist's arsenal. After a successful first volume in July 2020 in which five original tracks shone a light on Anton's skill and creativity, "Bulletproof, Vol. 2" continues the series with a trio of original tracks and a pair of high-class remixes.

Opening with the heavy rhythmic overtones of "LucyLidia", a grooved bassline quickly takes hold while percussive effects pan the stereo spectrum. A heavily modulated synth lead makes its presence felt while delicate motifs swirl hypnotically as the track evolves, reaching its melodic zenith at the breakdown before dropping back into the dense rhythmic forest in the second half. "Rotas" continues the strong percussive narrative, paired with a heavy beat. A glorious array of sumptuous pads and ‘rise and fall' arpeggio soon picks up the pace, reaching an octave pitched crescendo at the mid-point. Pausing for breath, all melodic elements then combine once more with the rhythmic backdrop to mesmerising effect in the second half. The third original track sees "Sator" make a powerful statement with a heavy, white noise infused bass pattern before complementary pads and symphonic strings filter into sonic range. Gloriously evocative, a glittering array of melodies wax and wane in gated and glissando fashion to continue a powerful and mature production narrative running through Anton's work.

Christian Wedekind needs little in the way of introduction. To the underground music fraternity, the German artist's D-Nox moniker has been a byword for quality for almost two decades, both in solo guise and with Brazilian star, Beckers. After an impressive Proton Music debut, remixing Juan Deminicis' "Life on the Moon" with ZAC, D-Nox now returns with a solo reworking of "Denouement" that bristles with dynamic verve and rhythmic prowess. Driving forward with a powerful running bassline, syncopated plucks and clever percussive integration pave the way for the central arpeggio in Anton MAKe's original to make its presence felt with a flowing ease. Delicious strings gently pulsate against the heavy beat before a new bassline makes its play at the breakdown before rhythm and melody join forces in the second half.

Sebastian Sellares has caused quite a stir on Proton Music since a debut remix of Hot TuneiK's "Circles of You" in June 2019. October 2020 then saw Sellares make his full EP debut for the label via his "Jinsei / Zen State" offering. Twin tracks of the highest quality led the way, complemented by a pair of remixes from heavyweights, Nick Muir and Matias Chilano. Now returning for the first time in 2021, the Sebastian Sellares interpretation of "Denouement" retains the original's intensity as a swathe of new production material echoes Vangelis, adding layers of undulating synths. Building with effervescent ease, traces of Anton MAKe's track are felt while the second half hits new heights through a combination of rhythmic and melodic interplay, rising in hypnotic intensity to reach an impressive conclusion.

A quintet of new productions find Anton MAKe, D-Nox and Sebastian Sellares squarely hitting the target in "Bulletproof, Vol. 2".

Anton MAKe - Sator (Original Mix)

To Ricciardi & Dope (PT) have an illustrious shared history. From the sun kissed Portuguese shores, the duo has found their music allied to a host of impressive imprints. To Ricciardi has been involved in the music industry since the early 1990s, subsequently graduating with a degree in audio engineering before featuring on a host of high-profile releases alongside the likes of Beckers, Frankey & Sandrino and Richard Dorfmeister. Joining forces with his compatriot, Dope (PT), the pair have made a splash on the Sururu Records, Flow Vinyl and Ohxala Records. Making their Particles debut, "Fusco" provides a sublime music box opening before emotive melodies sweep forwards. A sustained bassline and deep kick provide a rhythmic anchor as ticking percussive hats supply energy aplenty. A mid-point pause for breath creates a moment of reflection as the third movement explodes into life with a cascading arpeggio that drives the track forwards to its conclusion. "Lusco" provides a slower paced progressive offering that revels in luscious pads and delicate melodic counterpoint. Glistening in spring sunlight, the track evolves elegantly with intricate melodies, as a bassline groove and rolling percussion add weight.

A new artist pairing sees Dustin Nantais & Zoi take centre stage. Nantais has been a mainstay in the underground dance scene for almost a decade. A seasoned professional with a host of high-profile DJ performances to his name, the Toronto resident has overseen a successful production career with regular releases on Manual Music, Variety Music and Where The Heart Is. 2014's "Ideologue" was a notable Particles highlight as were remixes for Michael A and Rauschhaus. Similarly, Karachi born, Zoi, has had an explosive production career from his adopted Toronto home with releases on such esteemed imprints as Traum, Kindisch and Dream Culture. Now, making their collaborative Particles debut, the Dustin Nantais & Zoi remix of "Fusco" is a gloriously pulsating affair that captures the flowing melodic phrasing of the original while adding a swathe of new production material that blossoms in the second movement with a grooved bassline and heavy kick. Adding pitched vocal textures, the stunning melodic phrasing of To Ricciardi & Dope's work comes to the fore in a scintillating reinterpretation.

Pole Folder needs no introduction. A debut on John Digweed's Bedrock in 2000 shot the Belgian icon to fame while work for Proton Music since 2006 has assured his continued star status, as 2018's "A Glimpse Into the Past", "Serengeti" and the forthcoming, "Mara", clearly demonstrate. Particles has seen its own editions of these original tracks alongside remixes of Ferdy and Dante Pippi & Demitros in 2012 and 2018. Now returning to the label, the Pole Folder remix takes "Lusco" in a trademark progressive house voyage. Redolent in delicate melodic interaction, elements from the original blend seamlessly with Pole Folder's distinctive production work. A spine-tingling new bassline appears at the mid-point as a hypnotic motif wends its way across the third act in unhurried fashion, accompanied by symphonic strings and powerful beat. The result is a stunning new reworking.

For our 44th release on Juicebox Music, we're excited to present "Karma", a collaborative single by label debutant - Da Luka & returning artist - Jorgio Kioris. Hailing from Berat (Albania), Da Luka's journey since 2013 has seen him release music on Nikko Z's 'Dopamine Music', Madloch's '3rd Avenue' & Deersky's 'Soundteller Records' to name a few. Joining him & re-appearing on our imprint is the Kavála (Greece) based artist & Bloque Festival founder - Jorgio Kioris, who's also released music on Tash's 'Movement Recordings', Framewerk's 'Capital Heaven' as well as Stan Kolev & Matan Caspi's 'Outta Limits'. After Jorgio Kioris & Da Luka remixed each other on separate occasions, the two teamed up & put out "Cross The Line" & "Mirror Mode" on 'One of A Kind' & 'Hookah Records', respectively. Now joining our imprint for their third single - "Karma", they've pulled up their sleeves & brought out the big guns aiming straight for the darker rooms. A deep groove, dub chords & fluttering effects set the foundation to keep you glued to the floor.

Making his much awaited debut on our imprint is Chivilcoy (Argentina) based artist - Paul Deep. Through exceptional production quality, proven by highly acclaimed releases on Lee Burridge's 'All Day I Dream' & Hernan Cattaneo's 'Sudbeat', his music has become a firm favourite of many top-tier tastemakers with no surprise. Reworking the best parts of "Karma", Paul Deep's interpretation of Da Luka & Jorgio Kioris' "Karma" provides a more chunky & upfront experience.

Returning to our label after his excellent 4-track EP 'Nascent State' back in 2018, is London (UK) based artist - Nichols. Multiple appearances on Nick Warren's 'The Soundgarden' as well as being signed to Sonic Union's 'Lowbit', Paul Hazendonk's 'MNL' & more recently Dave Seaman & Steve Parry's highly respected 'Selador' indicate a positive trajectory for Nichols. His remix of Da Luka & Jorgio Kioris' "Karma" takes on a new lease of life with a completely new mood & direction.

Sabo and his label Sol Selectas once again take us on a musical trip around the world, with enchanting synth lines, psychedelic atmosphere, and tribal beats.

Focusing mainly on electronic sound, but still with some organic textures, the thirteen tracks on this special compilation range from melodic, deep house to tribal electronica.

The label welcomes new artists Aurka, Tamada, Serkan Eles, and DOMA for their debut on Sol Selectas.

They are also happy to present music from returning label favourites such as Be Svendsen, Timboletti, Guy Maayan, Ayala (IT), Golan Zocher and Choopie, Hot Oasis, PAAX Tulum, and Tuba Twooz.

Individually the artists have all made many solo achievements including music released on other labels such as Bar 25 Music, Crosstown Rebels, Cosmic Awakenings, and Kindisch.

Last year Sol Selectas launched its spring compilation 'Global Entry' which bridges the gap between the cold winter and hot summer. Warming our hearts, minds and souls with enlightening sounds, this second edition of the compilations once again welcomes in the summer months.

The songs feature heartfelt melodies, swirling arpeggios, subtle acid licks, distorted electric guitars, desert grooves, and lots of tribal percussion.

The artwork by Helia Jamali displays an interstellar doorway up the stairs of an exotic hacienda on a distant but familiar planet.

Miraval's love for unusual plants brought them to the "Asian Bleeding Heart" that was the beginning of this particular EP - the violet symbolizing nostalgia in their eyes and at the same time a cloud of emotions, they created "Violet Cloud". A truly talented artist with huge following and global appeal, Alex O’Rion continues to go from strength to strength within the world of underground dance. With his work spanning some 15 years of commercial releases, the Dutch master is a welcome returnee to Meanwhile with a stellar quartet of original tracks.

A regular across the industry’s finest purveyors of modern and cerebral progressive house music, Alex O’Rion has constantly found his music featured on such esteemed imprints as Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat, Guy J’s Lost & Found and Nick Warren’s Hope. A regular visitor to the upper echelons of the Beatport charts, over a million Spotify streams in 2020 and 4,000 followers points to broad appeal and wide-ranging support.

Now returning to Meanwhile after a trio of remixes for label head-honchos GMJ & Matter on June 2020’s “Gauntlet” and February 2021’s “The Path”, Alex O’Rion now returns to the label with a devastating 4-track original EP of unrivalled quality.

The “Echium” title track is a blistering sub-bass monster that drives along powerfully on a bed of ticking hi-hats and chest-thumping kick. Building in momentum, smooth pads and effortless synth lines flow across the 8-minute piece before revelling in a stripped-back breakdown. Picking up the pace again in the third movement, gorgeous harmonic overtones layer delicately across each other, borne of never-ending delay sweeps.

“Stranded” continues the powerful rhythmic narrative and otherworldly sonic landscape before a percussive loop provides subtle melodic phrasing. Shifting synth sequences bisect the left-right spectrum as waves of white noise fall against a rocky outcrop of percussive hats. Melodic lines continue to evolve in delicate patterns into the second half in a sonic palette of sheer bliss.

A sumptuous bassline groove propels “The Chase” through its hypnotic paces, accompanied by a chugging rhythmic backdrop. Simultaneously, gentle synth motifs pulsate in side-chained synchronicity as a rich symphony of sound swells into the second half against a plucked earworm phrase. The result is a dynamic and devastating club-friendly track that is sure to inspire a multitude of hands-in-the-air moments.

“The Serpent” ends the quadrilogy with its rippling sound effects that cascade in spiral patterns against a melodious foreground. Delicate percussive patterns marry with a deep resonant kick to provide a rhythmic anchor, giving freeform synth motifs the opportunity to express a meandering sonic voyage that reaches a powerful crescendo at the midpoint. Hitting its stride again in the third movement with additional melodic sequencing, the result is a charismatic end to an outstanding original EP."
