My goal is to create sonic landscapes that capture the listener and take them to unknown places while building and maintain a secondary (musical) world to keep them immersed and actively engaged within it. Music should be inherently enjoyable to listen to, yet provide enough tension to keep it interesting enough for active listening. I also try to tell an aural story or narrative that blends Electronic Music’s past with its present.

By using real-world environmental samples, I seek to anchor the listener to something that is familiar and immersive. Curiosity compels a deeper level of listening which helps develop, build and sustain the secondary world.

My stronger influences are 70s and 80s electronic and progressive musicians such as Brian Eno, Vangelis, Edger Froese, Klaus Schultze, David Sylvian, Holger Czukay, Popol Vuh and Pink Floyd, as well as more recent artists such as The Orb, Aphex Twin, Future Sound of London, Mathias Grassow, Steven Wilson, Bass Communion, Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. There are unabashed references and homages to these artists and (many more) which is consistent with the post-rock approach to modern music.

I grew up in a home where music was loved and the radio was always on, which gave me early exposure to a variety of genres including jazz, classical, contemporary, pop and rock. Playing musical instruments throughout my early and middle-school years, allowed me to became proficient in several woodwind instruments, the electric bass and manipulation of reel-to-reel tape recordings. The exploration in creating experimental tape effects had a large impact on my current musical expression.

TheUse is an electronic/rock/idm based project, based in Jersey City, w/ imaginative, moody electronic productions, including piano, guitar, and theremin. His music incorporates elements of techno, classical, jazz, hip-hop, electro, industrial, and even psych pop, making use of custom instruments, recorded samples, and theremin. His 2014 debut release on Alrealon Musique, “What’s the Use?” and subsequent remix album "Bloodwork feat. Black Saturn" were critically acclaimed in Tiny Mix Tapes, Huffington Post, Obsküre, and more.  TheUse has toured and performed across the US, Europe, India, and Canada. Locally, Durek has performed at Joe’s Pub, Le Poisson Rouge, Cameo Gallery, Monty Hall, and live on WFMU. He is often joined on stage by Christy Edwards on live percussion. And has done an official Cibo Matto remix.

From 1964 to 1998, I performed and played guitar, bass guitar and sang lead and background vocals with various Rock, Jazz, Country, Pop, Blues, Wedding, Dance and show bands in New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, Florida, Bermuda, Massachusetts and California.

From 1980 to 2012, I also performed solo, just voice and guitar, in concerts, lounges, coffee houses, clubs, casinos, yacht clubs, country clubs, restaurants and televised and video performances, playing Rock, Pop, Country, Blues, Jazz and standards.

Two of my instrumental Jazz compositions; "Honeymoon Suite" and "Lennys' Tune" were featured in the American Film Institutes' 2003 AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival and pre-event television commercials for ten days.

Started as a soundcloud collaboration among several artists, Particulates has morphed into a more focused smaller group consisting of electro experimental producers Matt Ackerman (moduS ponY) and Fred Desabaye (Sheepset), from US and France respectively, with the late addition of Bill Lewis singing lead on "Simple Line." Past collaborators also include: The Use, Sparky and the Random Band, Sarah Shamash, Kazuyasuwa, Derek Piotr, and Noche de Ronda.
