'I wanted to write a cinematic song about love and power. It started off with just the beat and bass and as I developed it I added the strings and more and more vocal arrangements, until I felt the message was clear enough.'

Every once in a while we surface to share our music and shed some light in an otherwise bleak reality. And that time is soon upon us, Ladies &amp; Gents. Our third installment, called "Junior", will be out on the 23rd of March 2009.

Röyksopp Forever

Out of a small town called Alta in Norway, come an Electro-pop duo named Pasemaker, formed in 2015. The duo who consist of Anne Gudrun Michaelsen and Esben Thomassen Andersen have recently drawn the attention of BBC Introducing Cornwall with their latest track ‘Wolf’.

The band’s recent media attention has come very quickly for the two, seeing as the group only began in May 2015. The band always have a message behind their material. Their first single ‘Pretty World’ takes a gaze upon society and humanitarian issues around them. That is not to say the duo have major viewpoints on political manners, but they certainly appreciate helping to make people aware of them. The song comes across as generally much brighter than their other song ‘Wolf’ and at the same time embraces a more mainland European vibe throughout.

The new track ‘Wolf’ is overflowing with the dark and ambient sound that Pasemaker pride themselves on. With a constant driving beat behind their music; A simple but infectious rhythm comparable to that of the heart and additionally how a medical pacemaker keeps it strong and continuous, this is what the duo says relates their music to the name. Extrinsic harmonies maintain a searching feeling as they echo throughout the song, in combination with some empathetic synths and keyboard, they support some unique, particular vocals that embrace a meaningfulness behind the song. Beneficially, the emotive backbone is embellished by the heavy use of reverb, slightly blurred diction and deliciously distracting side melodies.  

The group believes that Norwegian artists Röyksopp and Susanne Sundfør are their biggest influences and you can hear the similarities with these electronic and ambient heavyweights so frequently. With some more aspects comparative to 90s Tech House, Pasemaker have reinvigorated their idols’ style whilst adding their own personal touch. As evidenced by the BBC’s interest, this fresh injection of European electronic music is going down swimmingly with its new British audience, resulting in high chances that the band will be heard on many more radio stations.

The group have rid themselves of the reins of genre constraints through a purposeful blurring of their cultural boundaries. Instinctively, Pasemaker will at present continue to create music which runs through their veins; the road of experimentation sees no immediate end.
