Meet Hyenah, one of the main figures at Watergate Club. Being one of the main residents at our quickly growing Afro House focused RISE events, it was long overdue to see him land his debut EP on Watergate Records. 

Over the course of two originals and two reworks, Hyenah delivers a stellar package of percussion heavy, hypnotic and permanently growing cuts that will surely set any dance floor on fire in no time. Kicking things off, Hyenah joins forces with Pablo Fierro on ’Panoramica’ . With an undeniably infectious percussive arrangement they are laying the groundwork for a climactic journey of dramatic musicality culminating in a crescendo of pure rapture. A stripped down version follows as Hyenah's ‘Raw Beat Edit’ keeps all the intensity of the original yet fixates on the main groove.

‘The Golden Cage Of Yesterday’ is up next and it’s a wild ride of ups and downs where faint vocal chants appear in-between lush harmonics and delicate arpeggios resulting in an irresistible floor filler. Wrapping things up is Da Capo’s remix of ‘The Golden Cage Of Yesterday’. The Polokwane (SA) native weaves a wild venture, utilizing all of the original elements yet turns them into an intense, tension building foray campaign exhibiting the best that the new wave of African House music can possibly offer.

DOMINIQUE FILS-AIMÉ is a singer-songwriter hailing from Montreal, Canada. Her musical inspiration draws from soul icons of the 40’s and 60’s the likes of Billie Holiday, Etta James and Nina Simone. 

DOMINIQUE’S sophomore album STAY TUNED! was released in February 2019 and brings to center stage the resiliency of mankind in the face of adversity and oppression and pays homage to Afro-American history and culture. 

After hearing DOMINIQUE’S incredible gift and talent, we approached her and her team about putting together a remix package to help showcase her to the FOLIAGE audience.

London production hero and DJ Simbad (aka SMBD) joins forces with BBE Music for retrospective album ‘Collections Vol.1’.

Despite having produced a stellar series of remixes for the label over the years, ‘Collections Vol.1’ is Simbad’s debut on BBE as an artist, so he’s brought a few friends along for the ride.
The album features guest vocals from Lulu James, LaAerial, Steelo, Entek, Byron The Aquarius, Rae Rae, Claudia Smith and Miryam Solomon, all deftly framed by Simbad’s distinctive, warm, jazz-infused production.

Although a constant traveller, Simbad’s affinity with the UK, and in particular London, has placed him at the centre of the city’s music scene for many years now; with influences and inspirations flowing in both directions between him and his adopted hometown.

Says Simbad: “I came to London end of the 90’s with my saxophone for a summer and ended up staying. This is the place where my music journey as a DJ & a producer truly began. The culture of this island hit me hard &  deep. And because most of the stuff I’ve done is still unreleased (and I never stop making music where ever I go) I am absolutely delighted to share this collection of tunes featuring some of the most talented singers (and friends for life) that I had the pleasure to work in these last 10-15 years, recorded in my London studio sanctuary throughout the years. For BBE Music’s landmark 500th release, the label joins forces with Louie Vega, Leroy Burgess and Patrick Adams to revisit ‘Barely Breaking Even’, the iconic track after which the label is named.

Coaxed into the studio together by BBE founder Peter Adarkwah, Grammy winning House music hero Louie Vega, arranger extraordinaire and New York disco royalty Patrick Adams, plus the song’s original writer (and king of boogie) Leroy Burgess soon got to work. Even given the caliber of those involved in this special session, the results are simply exceptional.

Featuring live strings by The Apple Hill String Quartet arranged by Adams and Burgess, Vega’s ‘Boogie Mix’ stays faithful to the Universal Robot Band original, with potent vocal performances and a tough new groove for 2019.

It was at the string recording session for the boogie version that Louie Vega unveiled his ‘NYC House Mix’ to the assembled musicians, at which point he and Leroy Burgess quickly arranged a brand new horn section and re-wrote the song’s melody to compliment the track’s accelerated pace. What the team emerged with is so much more than a remix- it’s a unified call-back to two golden eras; that of disco-boogie and that of New York House. And it’s beautiful.
