After making a worldwide splash in late 2020 with their De La Soul collab "Baby Got Work" feat Kapok, Potatohead People are back with a brand new must cop release that crosses both sides of the Atlantic as the Magnificent DJ Jazzy Jeff and legendary UK producer and keyboard player Kaidi Tatham team up to remix the forementioned track. 

Bringing the energy up and out into a classic Hip-Hop vibe, Jeff & Kaidi infuse a head knockin' drum break complete with classic JJ scratches, synth bass, and Rhodes chords on top of Posdnuos's rhymes about getting your head down, putting your boots on and getting to work - helping to make the world better place for all of us. Vancouver collaborator Kapok sings aboout the shortness of our lives, and the potential in all of us to get the work done that we need to do. It's an allusion to the desperate times we're live in, with a hopeful call to action for all of us to roll up our sleeves and get down to the business of change. 

Potatohead People (Nick Wisdom & AstroLogical) are a Canadian hiphop/electronic producer duo. They first met in a community baseball league in early high school and joined forces through their love for J Dilla and Madlib. In 2008 they began working together in the hip-hop collective Elekwent Folk; soon after the two producers formed Potatohead People, and began to focus on creating forward thinking instrumental music. After releasing a series of EP’s digitally through Vancouver net-label Jellyfish Recordings, NY label Bastard Jazz reissued their 2012 landmark Kosmichemusik EP and pressed a 7” which quickly became a collector’s item. The association landed their song “Back To My Sh*t” (featuring Frank Nitty of Frank’n’Dank) on a Powerade produced LeBron James documentary, and the duo began working on their debut album, which drops on Bastard Jazz in early March. Among other projects, they are producing Illa J’s upcoming album which will also be released through the Brooklyn-based imprint in late 2015. Called a “formidable tandem” by OkayPlayer, their sounds have been championed early on by the likes of Kaytranada, Soulection, Nightmares on Wax, Pomo, Exmag, Big Boi, and Phife Dawg.

The 40 Thieves turn up in Leng’s back garden for a bit of late night skullduggery. Kicking off with 'Backward Love', a deep wobble of dub guitars, weird out FX, large 80's synth lines and lovely throbbing bass, more than enough to get people freaky. 

As expected, a meaty joint of late night disco, for the murkier end of the dance-floor. We hear an album is on it's way and if it matches the quality of this release then we've got a veritable treat on it's way.

This time the vocals come courtesy of one half of U.S. duo Myron & E (Stones Throw) with the latter of the pair lending his velvet tones to the hypnotic, sweet summer soul of the BBC 6Music favourite, I've Changed.

Gene's version of Todd Terje's Inspector Norse is a funk driven horn-fest and takes the modern dance floor classic into exciting new areas. Clear Path Ensemble is the neu project and brainchild of Wellington jazz and sonic arts graduate Cory Champion. Also producing left field house and techno under the name Borrowed cs, Clear Path Ensemble is Cory’s first offering to the jazz gods. Having spent many years playing drums alongside some of New Zealand’s most talented musicians in the revered Wellington jam session scene this release is an amalgamation of the energy & spirit that the Wellington scene encompasses. Walking over the blurred lines of psychedelia and spiritual jazz and taking cues from planetary rhythms and celestial oddities, CPE invokes a higher sense of self through the transformative power of sound. In it’s truest essence these are a collection of cosmic compositions and a release that in our opinion is one of the heaviest to ever emerge from the New Zealand neo-jazz scene.
