In the midst of ‘a journey into the electronic music universe’, Fancy Inc declare their own version of New Year’s resolution, the Brazilians kick-starting Clarisse’s 2016 campaign to follow a blockbuster 12 months for all concerned.

The green and gold pair of Dub Fragments and Matheus R made 2015 a stellar year with an appearance at the Amsterdam Dance Event, in addition to making continental advantage count in Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, holding it down in the Dominican Republic, and having rustled up rapports on labels such as King Street Sounds, La Musique Fantastique and Go Deeva.

South American steel comes with a hunger to leave dancefloors heaving, done with a particular old skool aesthetic where marching basslines leave feet blistered, and tech-plated beats are set to chug with the grip of a bear hug. Just off confrontational with its funkiness fully flexed, ‘That Records’ is the one Fancy Inc want on everyone’s lips and decks. Bristling with energy, bumping a churning bottom end (if any older heads remember Coldcut’s ‘Work Me Trak’, you’re in the right era), and razor sharp with its climactic builds, patrolling chords and explosive breakdown, the vibe demands a hard sweat that leaks into ‘Down to This’.

Tooled with a second pressuring of bass in no mood to politely wait its turn, and a vocal sample that does loving sentiment the hard way, Fancy Inc’s go-hard-or-go-home route fills ‘Down to This’ with drum rolls and a fistful of chords on uncompromising back up. Both tracks guarantee you’ll never get the idea of ‘fancy’ twisted again.

Eli Brown returns to Repopulate Mars with three lively house cuts 
entitled ‘Guru EP’ this February.

Having established himself as a highly respected producer within the drum n bass scene, it’s unsurprising that Eli Brown is hotly tipped as one of the most exciting prospects in modern house music. This is further enforced by his discography to date, with the Bristolian’s productive 2017 featuring appearances on lauded imprints such as VIVa, Toolroom, Of Unsound Mind and Sola. He now reappears on Lee Foss’ Repopulate Mars label to kick-start the year with a robust three track release.
An energetic affair from the off, ‘The Guru’ features an infectious bassline, echoing effects and an upbeat vocal sample destined to move dancefloors. ‘Alone In The Dark’ is a high-octane roller with its crunchy snares and twisting synths, before Brown concludes the package with a compelling groove in the peak-time focused ‘Warning’.

Young Irish-producer Rebūke continues his rapid ascent to the top with two original productions on Hot Creations, primed and ready for the dancefloor.

Rebūke recalls being worried that Along Came Polly may have been perceived as being “a bit too weird”, but once it caught the attention of Jamie Jones, there was no stopping it. He says that the hype surrounding this EP “is something I’ve never experienced before...and it always get a great reaction”.

On Along Came Polly, Rebūke showcases his innate ability to craft a weirdly, wonderful slice of techno. On the B-side, Rolo is a much housier affair, weaving together a bouncier bassline and sultry vocal stab.

The alias of Reuben Keeney, Rebūke, has only been in business for a short while, but his efforts have already proved to be fruitful. He has garnered support from the likes of Nic Fanciulli and released on labels including Saved and DFTD, as well as having a successful club night under his belt, where highly regarded names such as Camelphat, Darius Syrossian, Ejeca and Huxley have all played.
