In a partnership with Bar None Records, Lost Colony Music is thrilled to announce the release of R Stevie Moore & Jason Falkner Make It Be on Friday, March 10, 2017. The album was recorded at Rhetoric, in Hollywood CA by Jason Falkner. The grand majority of songs were composed by Moore with one by Falkner, one co-written by the pair, one co-written by Roger Ferguson. Then there's a wonderful rendition of Huey Smith & The Clowns "Don't You Just Know It."

What happens when R. Stevie Moore and Jason Falkner get together to record, arrange, and mix R. Stevie's songs? We get to hear an audacious realization of these songs' full potential in an epic collaboration no one saw coming. Moore and Falkner burst through your door with "I H8 Ppl" and take you on a journey through rock, pop, and experimental textures. Anchors such as "Play My Self Some Music" and "Sincero Amore," keep the effort focused, while guitar-only interludes and spoken word pieces push boundaries.
The New York Times dubbed R Stevie Moore a "lo-fi legend;" he has over 400 releases to his credit having started making music in 1968.

Jason Falkner is a power pop pioneer who started his career in the 80's with The Three O'clock and is a founding member of Jellyfish. He has released numerous solo records and has worked with such greats as Beck, Air, Aimee Mann, Travis and Paul McCartney.

Moore and Falkner are legends on their own but, as Make It Be loudly announces, their voices, performances, and arrangements have always been a match made in heaven waiting to be realized here on earth.

Istanbul has a deep, layered history. From its beginnings as a fishing village to one of the pillars of the Roman world. The final stop on the Silk Road. The centre of the Ottoman Empire as the Turks spread their huge net across the Middle East. Across the centuries the city drew in cultures and blended them. Growing up there, singer-songwriter Gaye Su Akyol breathed all that in every day, along with her family’s ancient roots in Anatolia. Those rich traditions combine to form part of the sound she’s developed on her album Hologram Ĭmparatorluğu (Hologram Empire), where sultry Turkish melodies twine around spiky, twanging guitars and insistent rhythms.

“When I was young, we visited Anatolia every year. I had the chance to observe and realise the different perspectives and practices of cultures. That made me feel closer to the diversity of Anatolian civilisation. But when I heard Nirvana’s Nevermind for the first time, my mind blew up. I discovered other Seattle bands, then people like Nick Cave, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, and Einstürzende Neubaten.  A bit later I heard Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit.” The dark, mellow mood of the music, the use of the instruments and the vocal technique of Grace Slick greatly inspired me and led me into psychedelia and then surf bands.  What they all did seemed to fit with older Turkish singers I loved like Selda Bağcan and Müzeyyen Senar.”

The daughter of acclaimed Turkish painter Muzaffer Akyol, Akyol earned a degree in social anthropology and worked as an artist before creating music took over. She experimented, feeling her way towards her vision. And when she met the band Bubituzak, something clicked. They understood what she was doing; they became part of her art. Together they recorded her debut, Develerle Yaşıyorum, in 2013, following it with acclaimed, masked performances in Turkey and at festivals across Europe.

That first disc seeded the ground. The new album, Hologram Ĭmparatorluğu, bears the full fruit of the partnership. It digs deeper, fired with a seductive, shadowy passion. The thick swirl of Oriental strings on “Hologram” plunges towards the heated boil of “Fantastikir Bahti Yarimin.” The dark lullaby of “Dünya Kaleska” weaves a haunted post-punk spell before building to the album’s climax “Berduş,” where spaghetti western guitar cracks over a propulsive rhythm and a sensuous Anatolian melody. The sound is cinematic and gorgeous and Gaye’s luminous voice brilliantly orchestrates these shifting moods.

In Gaye Su Akyol’s universe, the past becomes folded into the present and launched into the future. Hologram Ĭmparatorluğu is heady, powerfully intoxicating and beautifully dangerous.

“Your art is something you have to find yourself,” Akyol says. “I’m looking inside my consciousness to my culture. I love rock but there are hidden things in my subconscious. Call it Turkish art rock if you like.”

Groove Is In The Heart is the first of 3 singles from the forthcoming album “Don’t Get Lost” released in February 2017. Both tracks (Groove Is In The Heart & Throbbing Gristle) feature vocals by Tess Parks , these tracks give an idea of the changing rhythms of the Brian Jonestown Massacre for the new album. Heavy hypnotic beating drums , with smoky vocals provided by Tess Parks.Anton Newcombe has been a very busy man these past 2 years, kicking off with the critically acclaimed Brian Jonestown Massacre album ‘Revelation’ in May 2014. After a successful UK and European tour, the BJM followed this up with the ‘+-‘ EP (Nov 2014). 2015 saw the release of ‘Musique de film imaginé’ (April); an imaginary film soundtrack album featuring the track ‘Bonbon’ which has, ironically, been used in ‘Dheepan’; the Palme D'or winner at Cannes film festival 2015. In June, Anton and Tess Parks embarked on a well received tour of the UK and Europe to support the release of ‘I Declare Nothing’. Anton finished the 2015 with a BJM mini-album release entitled ‘Mini-Album Thingy Wingy’ . In 2016 The band released 2 singles and the critically acclaimed Third World Pyramid . The band have been touring the world since November 2015 ,playing Australia , New Zealand , and then in 2016  USA , Canada , Europe , Chile & Argentina.

New Life

I fell in love with Joy Electric over a decade ago. There was just something about buzzing, whirring synthesizers and melancholic melodies that did it for me. The few friends I’ve shared it with over the years never understood my devotion to what seems like esoteric electronic music, but Ronnie Martin’s saccharine synthpop taught me to take melody seriously.

Both prolific and obscure, Martin never settled on one sound; every album was an experiment with textures and timbres. One song, however, is for me the indubitable flagship of his singular songwriting. “The Boy Who Never Forgot” is at once hook-laden yet reserved, easygoing yet wistful—the type of configuration I aim for in every song I write. My cover of this gem serves as a tribute to the synthpop wizardry of Joy Electric. As you listen, I hope you feel just a little bit of that magic that inspired me as a teen.
