Pachakuti and young.vishnu return with their first single after their 2020 album “Semilla”. On “Juego de Olas” they are crossing lofi beats, jazz and new age music with seemingly effortless ease. Based in Berlin and Hildesheim, our duo acts like a full blown band with Pachakuti on keys, flute, piano, harmonium, percussion and young.vishnu on drums, bass and guitar. For fans of Kiefer, FloFilz, Alfa Mist and Robert Glasper. 

Pachakuti is a classically trained saxophonist and pianist with strong leanings towards Jazz and Latin music. young.vishnu is a beatmaker, arranger, sampleologist and the founder of the Nima Composition Archive. They both briefly met five years ago in Hildesheim and became friends during a road trip to the Bask country. Pachakuti and young.vishnu formed a nine-piece band called the Soularkestra which became the nucleus of their new project that combines free-thinking grooves with strong messages about politics, identity, globalization and neocolonialism.

In 2020 they released their debut album “Semilla” on Melting Pot Music. The record became an instant success amongst beat heads and jazz lovers alike. The limited LP edition (500 copies) sold out within weeks and several songs reached high positions in influential playlists on Spotify, like “Jazz Vibes”, “Butter” and “State of Jazz”. Pachakuti is also a long-time friend and musical companion of Berlin-based neo soul singer Douniah.

“I tried to bring you a selection of different styles from Africa with a short stop in the West Indies. This is rumba and soukous from Congo, electro + funky highlife sounds from Ghana, and some very mysterious (if you ask me) electro bikutsi from Cameroun that sounds like Caribbean cadence - that's the track from the group Ashiko Deluxe, which I've been after for almost three years without knowing the title!

You also hear gwo-ka music from Guadeloupe (Eric Cosaque!!) and jazz from Martinique (that Max Cilla album... flute king numero uno!).

These days i'm on a congolese thing – which you might hear starting off with the two nice and easy rumba tunes. First a little intro focusing on the lyrics before getting down to more dance floor business.

I've been buying these records over the last years mostly on flea markets and record stores in Paris, and some on Discogs. Many good memories from finding these tunes which I love deeply. If you want to hear me play this out you can come and catch me at a Jungelen party (Bergen) or just wherever!

An amazing record recently landed in my post office box, an absolute classic of an album I honestly never thought I’d see in person let alone get a copy of: Winston Mankunku Ngozi’s quartet masterpiece “Yakhal Inkomo” - I insist everyone at least take a listen to this on Spotify or elsewhere. On this episode I've included the title track to start off the set. Simon Alejandro and Olav Eggestøl recently played the very last DJ set ever at Rommet, Bergen. Their final performance included dub, house, disco, zouk, mpb, rap and highlife.

The following day they went straight into the studio and recorded an epic mix of that set, now scheduled to air on Vers Libre.

Tune in for a piece of history as the chieftains of Jungelen and Mhost Likely go back-to-back for 4 hours of music, a deep dive into their own music collections. One final, graceful bow out as Rommet exits the arena. A thanks for everything it has given to the city of Bergen!
