For round #88 we are happy to present you a guest mix by Berlin based young-gun @valentin-hauptmann. He’s among the most tasteful selectors the City has to offer and showcases his various and inspiring discoveries through his Baile De Mainman YT-channel.

For the last weeks live appearance in the Cashmere HQ he has put together a magical trip into the psychedelic heritage of lesser known late sixties garage- and folkrock from UK and the US. Ride on!

Past Forward #88 with Valentin

it's been a while... and we're back with a gentle bang a.k.a. a mix of the amazing Sanky @sankywashere!! 
Many of you will have had the pleasure to dive into his selections at other sites. Being a fan for a good while I dared to ask him for a mix and now we installed a window to his universe here at the bin too! As I always enjoyed the variety and finesse of his mixes I asked for his musical background and Sanky was so nice to share this with us: 
"My mother was a piano teacher and sometimes practiced with various classical musicians who were playing at city hall so the house almost always had strange, orchestral sounds emanating from the dusty front room. I can't play a note of piano as my hands don't seem to want to work together as 10 fingers but I can play some wind instruments and loved learning the trumpet, these strange organic sounds are something that I now realize feature heavily when out looking for records, weird sounds seem to mean as much as beautiful lyrics these days. I also think the varied pace of classical from Adagio all up to Presto might have influenced me more than I thought too. I've never really understood music in terms of bpm's but more on feeling. I'm 51 and I feel really lucky to grow up in a pre internet world on rare soul and jazz, boogie, soundtracks, samples and hip hop which provided another view of how incredibly different music really can be. Hearing Colin Curtis screaming down the mic at age 15 playing Margie Evans “Waterfalls” or watching David Mancuso drop “Whole Lotta Love” after Tamiko Jones “Can’t Live Without Your Love’ at 6pm in the afternoon and watch people lose their minds are things I feel truly lucky to have witnessed, genius at work for sure.
 
I just still look out for the oddness, especially on 7” as there is still so much undiscovered music there but also something that sounds familiar even when it’s not. I live in Mexico now and again due to what I hear day to day in the street (not just necessarily music) changes what I collect, the feeling of life here is softer and slower so this mix might have a piece of that in it. I hope you listen to the mix all the way through in a comfortable place you feel happy to be in. It has some of my most favorite records I play over and over…big love.

Here's our recording from @valentin-hauptmann and me at this years lovely Zmar Festival and we're super happy to finally share it with you. Thanks to all these fantastic creatures who shared this memorable saturday afternoon with us. For the two of us it has been one of the best moments this year.

The sound might be a bit off due to the leveler, odd EQing, intense fun and a great Friday night. But we hope that after some editing it’s edible now!

Four odd hours of magic from The Gun's longest running resident, chief musical tastemaker Nathan Gregory Wilkins. His second Saturday of the month sessions are beloved to so many of us that it is absolutely incredible that we haven't got one of his live sessions up here before.
If we're being entirely truthful, perhaps its because if you know about Nathan's session, then fair play to you, they are available live to his flock - here in the pub.
If you are a fan of Nathan and Ivan Smagghe's seminal Channelling show on NTS then you will have an idea of the flavour, but this and his monthly sets are something a little different, yet equally amazing.
Get stuck in, this one is fantastic.

Here is a new episode of Music From Mullets with a focus on Reggae, Calypso and Zouk. I'm diving into the rather southern flavoured genres, still being able to fit in the melancholy of the current mood. This time's guest mix comes from Elena Annibali aka Jenny Savana – collector of rare records and member of @maledettadiscoteca. As a true master in the field of southern rhythms Jenny Savana recorded a mix from Bossa & Samba to Calypso and Zouk, with Reggae as a leitmotif.
