This sensational genre defined the tail end of the 20th century, playing out the fantasies of mainstream USA to a global market. A maligned genre, it can surprise in its complexity, beauty and subversion. Aesthetically cool as fuck with some all time fave music. Alongside classics like 80s De Palma, Joe Eszterhas 90s vehicles for Sharon Stone and a touch of Linda Fiorentino (who is stunning in John Dahl’s superb The Last Seduction) expect cross genre moods and plenty of sleazier Direct To Video films (Gregory Dark’s empire). This genre borrowed from itself, the DTV soft core porn and blockbuster / art house end of the spectrum sharing tropes within its own eco system which during its 90s peak was a cultural phenomenon. Some DTV moments being visually as stunning as say, 90s Abel Ferrara or Donald Cammell’s Wild Side. A forever fascinating and understudied genre. I highly recommend The Erotic Thriller in Contemporary Cinema by Linda Ruth Williams for anyone interested in diving further, the first full length study of the genre.

Past Forward #56 w/ Herr Dobler

Two of the most promising producers of the so-called Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene joined forces to deliver the forthcoming release of the respected label Espacio Cielo: Lucare (SXDNS175) and Aurum Miles present “Demonomania”, a devilish and intense EP featuring two spirited originals and three lively remixes provided with love by an international selection of top-notch artists: Mexico-born/France-based Leonor (SXDNS034), Spanish Lebollet (RASTROLIVE004) and Belgium duo Marching Machines.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “demonomania” can be defined as “a delusion of being possessed by evil spirits”. The condition has surely not affected the lads but the same cannot be said of their synths: The sonority they conveyed sounds fiendish and infernal – undoubtedly, the dance floor will say thanks!

Premiered here, Leonor’s crushing remix of “Taste Of Your Mushroom”: In his interpretation, the mayor of Tournus opted for a darker instead of a more percussive (and characteristic) atmosphere, investing in a fatter bassline and ominous synth layers – the dance floor will also certainly say thanks!

Selection for my friends Thomass Jackson & Iñigo Vontier from @calypsorecs, which is a home for @plot_pilot music - my project with Tumosa.
Mix was inspired by the first gig after 8 months break at 313 Cable park in Palanga (shouts to all the dancers - you were amazing!), selected in the sky, while flying all over the Europe and finally finished in a small beautifull town of Deià in Mallorca. It contains lots of my favorite vinyls and some of the new digs - 
perfect introduction to the sounds you can expect to hear me playing this summer. Hope you’ll enjoy - see you soon in the dancefloors.

We proudly present the metamorphosis 23, this time with Herr Dobler. He is a music connoisseur based in Mannheim, where he runs the event series "der Automat" with his friend Philipp. He is also part of the cosmic gathering crew, who host without any doubt always one of the best parties of the whole year.

For his set Herr Dobler was strongly influenced by "Bohren & Der Club Of Gore", a doom jazz band straight out of the Pott. His uncle took him to a concert when he was 16. He was totally blown away until 5-6 years ago when he forgot about their music until this September. Apart from that, this trip down memory lane is accompanied by a wild selection of musical rarities: From jazzy blues to exotic voodoo eithopian sounds, from dirty fuzzy guitars to weirdo electronic dance music. Mr. Dobler knows how to weave all these patches into a psychedelic blanket that we highly recommend you to cover yourself in.

Since 2019 he is part of the Cosmic Gathering team and organizes a music event series on site called Der Automat, which is still in its infancy. For us, he recorded a little journey through his favorite oriental-influenced records and tracks he's been wanting to put into a mix for a long time. Especially the last three tracks are absolute gems for him, which Kyran frequently listens to, but rarely plays anywhere. We hope that you enjoy listening as much as we do.

Somewhere amidst fuzzy guitars, slow-burning synths, and lavishly melodic space-punk lullabies lies Herr Dobler's musical interest. He enjoys weaving together these sound patches into a psychedelic blanket, inviting listeners to cover themselves and drift away into space. Since 2019, he has been an integral part of Camp Cosmic, and occasionally appears with Der Automat in his home region of Mannheim, bringing a more eclectic and niche sound to the public.
