Rooted in jungle, breakcore, dancehall and dub, DJ Ripley weaves together bass sounds from cities all over the world, where immigrants and exiles bring their sounds from home and mix them with electronic beats. Her goal: to transform dancefloors into spaces for subversive pleasure, celebrating shared histories and their conscious dialogue, using music to challenge hierarchies: borders, genres, dominant definitions of gender and sexuality: to make systems quake and feel good doing it. She's opened minds and lit up dancefloors across 25 countries on three continents. Nurtured in Boston’s Toneburst Collective in the 90s, she cofounded Surya Dub (SF) in  2006,  joined Dutty Artz (NYC) in 2011, and in 2015 cofounded the groundbreaking HEAVY series with DJ Anna Morgan. More recently, she cofounded SUBVERSION PHL with Philly-based dj/producers Cristiña and Sideswipe. As a scholar, she’s also written a book on Jamaican soundsystem culture, copyright law and anticolonial resistance. It’s called Rude Citizenship.

PATCHER is a moniker I use when making electronic (ambient, electronica, acousmatic, techno, idm, etc.) music and if I DJ.

I try to take it easy, keep grounded and just come up with stuff that I'd enjoy listening to and/or dancing to. I've had a couple remixes released in small limited editions through tiny indie labels.

I listen to a lot of different music, but not heaps and heaps - I'm not a music glutton. I like stuff like Boards of Canada, Autechre, Mirwais, Murcof, Squarepusher, Bill Callahan, John Fahey, Testu Inoue, Loscil, Four Tet, Gaiser, Steve Reich, Brian Eno, Matmos, Hobo, Soft Pink Truth, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Bill Evans, Olivier Messiaen, Swayzak…etc.
