Benevolent Machines is a musical project by Dev Saha. The sonic aim is ultimately psychedelic with layers of grunge, shoegaze, noise rock, and post-rock. In 2017, the recording for the debut album Built on the Best Intentions began in Manhattan, New York. The album touches on themes of climate change, technological advancement, social upheaval, and personal experiences. The album officially released October 4, 2019.

To begin recording, Dev built a studio within his home by constructing an isolation/echo chamber using condenser and dynamic microphones surrounded by carefully designed wood panels and acoustic insulation. The entire recording and tracking process for the guitars, vocals, and bass in the album was performed by Dev using this setup. All drums and percussion were written through midi loops. After Dev finished all songwriting and production, he sent out his track ‘The Fighter’ to Grammy-nominated sound engineer Brent Kolatalo (credits: Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Lenny Kravitz) for mixing in NYC. Final mixes for the album were subsequently completed in Chicago by mixing engineer Matt Dougherty (credits: Megadeth) with final masters completed by mastering engineer Jon Tornblom (founder of Transparent Mastering). Album artwork was created by artist and photographer Colin Kubarych.
