Berlin producer Emma Kollmorgen joins the Kompakt family with “You Are The”, her debut solo single and a paean to the uncertainty and unpredictability of love. Slowly enveloping, the song is an artfully built electro-pop hymn capturing “that feeling when you meet someone special and every sane fiber in your body spins out of control”, Kollmorgen says. Gracefully paced, “You Are The” shades in its lines with a push-pull tension that resolves, over its five minutes, to lushness.

There is not much known about Kollmorgen. Born and raised in Berlin, she spent her early years moving in and out of music – learning piano, teaching herself guitar, joining some bands, but it “never felt right”, she recalls. “(I) wanted to find my own sound and be more independent, write songs.” Attending a course to learn the basics of producing, some live performances followed, but generally Kollmorgen kept things low to the ground. A perfectionist by design, she’s also a risk-taker: “(I) love to create my own sounds – field recordings – trial and error – chopping, listening, looping…”

Kollmorgen was introduced to Kompakt by Patrice Baumel, who also supplies a beautiful remix of “You Are The”, taking the original’s late-nite melancholy out on the floor, with rolling waves of drone underpinning a steely, insistent rhythm. For Kollmorgen, though, this is just the start – there’s more to come as she patiently chips away at more songs: “I am still discovering new things while writing or singing and still want to dig deeper,” she reflects. And you can hear that depth in the emotional undercurrents that wash through “You Are The”, possessed as it is with a quiet, perceptive intensity. Perhaps Kollmorgen sums it up best herself: “Love is scary as fuck!”

How Can I Resist is a song recorded and produced in Cairo by Parallells and Fulltone, that has shaken the dance floors last summer. It is now being re- released with a new Dub version and an outstanding killer remix from Patrice Bäumel.

This is a one hour recording of the HALO all nighter last December at Shelter Amsterdam. Where you would normally see a set climb upwards all night, we went the opposite way of ‘climbing downwards’. This seems counterintuitive at first, but I often find this subtle, introverted euphoria more interesting and rewarding than chasing climax after climax. All night long sets make these deviations from the norm possible. Happy listening!

HALO Afterparty Mix (Summer 2024)

This is a large portion of my 12 hour set at Stereo Montreal on September 28, 2024, my longest solo set ever. Missing are the first 2 hours, which I cut for better overall flow, as well as the last hour, which was not recorded as my recorder ran out of battery power.

To me, Stereo represents the absolute top of electronic music clubs worldwide. It is one of the few places that gives DJs the canvas to play long sets under near optimal conditions - an amazing sound system, great monitors, beautiful and subtle lighting and - last but not least - a knowledgeable, demanding and unified crowd.

Here is my Boom Festival 2025 set. I love this festival from the bottom of my heart. The spirit of oneness and connection on the dancefloor is strong. Everybody is plugged into the source. As an artist and raver, I can be 100% myself. 

This set is quite introspective for such a big stage. I find that for Boom, a flowing, psychedelic approach works better than playing banger after banger. I learned this after witnessing Wata Igarashi deliver a super deep yet thoroughly satisfying set here two years ago. Story trumps climax.

Patrice Bäumel - Boom Festival 2025

I loved this gig so much, even though it was over before I knew it. Playing to an 8000 crowd required a slightly heavier hand in choosing tracks than normally but it was a rock n roll experience that reminded me once again what all those 1000s of hours of learning, practicing, despairing, hoping, struggling were good for - to get the opportunity to connect people with each other and feel the love. It's good, important work.

Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons return to Crosstown Rebels with the iconic I Found You, remixed by Black Coffee and former resident of Trouw Patrice Bäumel.

Lazarus closed his Day Zero festival in Mexico with I Found You back in January, and since then it has become one of his most requested tracks. His magical live project The Ancient Moons was first unleashed in 2014 with Lover’s Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya) and followed in 2015 by the highly acclaimed album, A Message From The Other Side, co-produced with James Ford. Since then, Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons have travelled the world with their highly immersive live show, supported Roisin Murphy on tour and played at Glastonbury festival and Melt! amongst others.

The Fader labelled The Ancient Moons “a journey into techno’s dreamiest recesses” and the four piece have been continually shrouded in mystery. Last year Lazarus and his collection of musicians retreated into the Italian countryside and started work on new and self-produced material. The Ancient Moons brings together Zulu on vocals, Ben Chetwood on electronics, and Rob Gentry on keyboards. I Found You is the first fruits of their labour. Continuing a path first started by the band’s anthemic single Vermillion, I Found You is intensely soulful, warm and paired with anthemic vocals from singer Zulu. This the first of a string of tracks from the band in 2017.

Lazarus comments: “This is the first time I've created music in a band situation and I loved every moment of it. I decided to make the new music as a collective and the four of us have created magic. The energy that we enjoyed from beginning to end of this process was electric."

Champion of the South African electronic scene Black Coffee supplies the first remix, and takes I Found You to new dimensions. This is a rare remix outing from this pioneering South African DJ. Amsterdam based Patrice Bäumel is a former resident of the now legendary Trouw and has released on Get Physical, Systematic, Diynamic, Kompakt and My Favorite Robot among others. Patrice adds complexity and takes things deeper and more atmospheric. It’s quite the package.

Nuno and I covered a lot of ground in those unforgettable morning hours, playing for about 2,5 hours to the most amazing crowd. A lot of love, happiness and hedonistic behaviour going on and as the hours progressed it just got better and better. Sleeping before going out at around 9 in the morning is definitely the way forward. Daytime parties agree with my biological clock...no hangover whatsoever :-)

While this remix never got a proper release, it still is one of my favourites. Lana is an incredible vocalist. Her voice is a ray of light illuminating the obscure and almost menacing electronic landscape I created around it.
