Berlin producer Emma Kollmorgen joins the Kompakt family with “You Are The”, her debut solo single and a paean to the uncertainty and unpredictability of love. Slowly enveloping, the song is an artfully built electro-pop hymn capturing “that feeling when you meet someone special and every sane fiber in your body spins out of control”, Kollmorgen says. Gracefully paced, “You Are The” shades in its lines with a push-pull tension that resolves, over its five minutes, to lushness.

There is not much known about Kollmorgen. Born and raised in Berlin, she spent her early years moving in and out of music – learning piano, teaching herself guitar, joining some bands, but it “never felt right”, she recalls. “(I) wanted to find my own sound and be more independent, write songs.” Attending a course to learn the basics of producing, some live performances followed, but generally Kollmorgen kept things low to the ground. A perfectionist by design, she’s also a risk-taker: “(I) love to create my own sounds – field recordings – trial and error – chopping, listening, looping…”

Kollmorgen was introduced to Kompakt by Patrice Baumel, who also supplies a beautiful remix of “You Are The”, taking the original’s late-nite melancholy out on the floor, with rolling waves of drone underpinning a steely, insistent rhythm. For Kollmorgen, though, this is just the start – there’s more to come as she patiently chips away at more songs: “I am still discovering new things while writing or singing and still want to dig deeper,” she reflects. And you can hear that depth in the emotional undercurrents that wash through “You Are The”, possessed as it is with a quiet, perceptive intensity. Perhaps Kollmorgen sums it up best herself: “Love is scary as fuck!”

'Moon Sky' is an artful piece of downtempo electronica and a different sound for Maceo Plex, but as compelling as ever. It rides on slow and purposeful drum loops that complement the heart-aching vocal from Ishi. Globally renowned for his wealth of intricate productions and an expansive musical catalogue that strikes the perfect balance between power and grace, award-winning producer Rodriguez Jr. now announces his latest full-length studio album project, Feathers & Bones – set for worldwide release on May 26 via his newly launched imprint of the same name.

An extensive, ten-track opus that dives deep into the Frenchman’s complex sonic identity, Feathers & Bones was recorded over the course of two years, conceptualized while living in Paris and completed from his new home, Miami. Pivoting towards a new chapter in his illustrious career, the album houses a collection of new Rodriguez Jr. solo productions, two singles with Cuban-American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Liset Alea, his collaboration with multifaceted Italian artist Giorgia Angiuli, as well as an eagerly-anticipated debut collaboration with legendary English hip hop / electronica outfit, Stereo MC’s.

Following the recent release of Tuning The Moon with Giorgia Angiuli, Rodriguez Jr. reveals the next vocal single to be taken from the album. Teaming up with his wife and Nouvelle Vague collaborator, Liset Alea, Amplify emanates hedonistic grooves across its duration, combining raw bass, celestial synths and Liset’s alluring vocals. Working together in perfect harmony, this charming creation will leave a lasting impression on the listener. Joining Amplify, Rodriguez Jr. also delivers his first instrumental record in the form of Lithium. Exuding a mysterious atmosphere, the track builds gradually with flurrying synths and eerie pads, pushed along by raw, driving bass.

Speaking about Feathers & Bones, Rodriguez Jr. mentioned:

“Now more than ever, I feel the urgency to explore different formats and genres. Twenty-five years of experience in music production and thousands of shows for diverse audiences all over the world has taught me that the unpredictable is often at the core of every achievement, especially today when dance music has become so formatted. The album is a pivot towards a new chapter of my life and carries the personal alchemy that I seek in my live shows; oscillating between dreamy melodies, ethereal textures and kinetic beats.”

Giving insight into Amplify’s backstory, Liset Alea said:

“Written in lock-down Paris, a time of deep reflection and dreams of escape, I kept asking myself what takes me beyond the craziness of this world, what makes me vibrate at a higher frequency, what amplifies me? Whatever guarantees my goosebumps, it is definitely sacred and worth writing a song about.”

Bicep - Drift (Patrick Krause Edit) is a edit of the original track "Drift" by Bicep. 

The Edit features an energetic sound with a driving bassline and pulsing beat. While retaining the original melody, Krause transforms and enhances it with his production style. The overall sound of the remix is polished and modern, while still maintaining the hypnotic and atmospheric qualities of the original track.

This edit was played among others by Solomun at the Exit Festival 2021, but not only has played this edit but also many other well known artists like Judge Jules or also DJ Karotte.

Bicep - Drift (Patrick Krause Edit)

While this remix never got a proper release, it still is one of my favourites. Lana is an incredible vocalist. Her voice is a ray of light illuminating the obscure and almost menacing electronic landscape I created around it.
