“Dead Centre” is a menacing, minimalist, trap-tinted banger by Malaysian-Australian rapper Omar Musa. Produced by Joelistics (Elefant Traks), it is based around a quote by German film director Werner Herzog and is dedicated to so-called “outsiders” of society, whether they be artists or ethnic minorities. Dealing with the uncertainties of modern Australia, from racism to surveillance, it is a defiant anthem.

“The Past Becomes You” is a soaring, soulful song by Malaysian-Australian rapper Omar Musa. Over a cinematic beat by Joelistics, Omar Musa, Hau and L-FRESH the LION tell personal stories about how each of their cultural backgrounds (Malaysian, Tongan and Punjabi) affects how they make music today. With Lior providing the hook, this is a unique song and video which shows a side to Australia that is layered, complex and proud, but often ignored.

“Assimilate”, the second single from Omar Musa’s full length album “Since Ali Died”, is a war cry. Over a new wave beat by Papertoy, this is an important and timely moment of defiance and solidarity, challenging the notions of what it means to “fit into” modern Australia. Featured on the track is a blistering verse from Gumbayngirr rapper Tasman Keith. “Since Ali Died” will be release on December 1st.
