The 7th of November Adrian Recordings is releasing a remix successor. 4 of the finest Swedish artists are trans-coding Alice's songs to another dimension.

I want you more than I need you. Are you coming back? Are you coming back? I'm waiting," sings Alice Boman in her fragile and hypnotizing voice. In her song "Waiting," the Scandinavian artist's voice is accompanied only by her melancholic piano playing. Boman recorded the song, as well as her entire debut EP Skisser, which means "sketches" in Swedish, at home. It is a raw, unedited testimony of the power of the relationship between music and emotion. Later this fall, Boman will re-release her EP with now in remixed form.

Skisser / Remixed  will be replete with more complex sounds, featuring up-and-coming Swedish music artists. Straying from trite DJs and already established remixers, Boman deliberately selected the younger artists with whom she collaborated. Here we are pleased to premiere Boman's unison with Swedish kraut dance orchestra NATTEN for the remix of "Waiting."

"I think I somehow become more aware and observant when listening to the remix," Boman says. "I love what NATTEN did—the beat and the horns and that bass. They added another pulse to it."

With NATTEN's additions, "Waiting" retains its melancholic tone while simultaneously acquiring a stronger substance from analogue instruments, such as the trumpet, and synthesizers. The remix further develops Boman's original sound; it does not entirely replace it.

Accordingly, Skisser / Remixed's album art reflects Boman's progression. The original Skisser cover depicts a costal field in soft focus with the ocean looming behind the trees on the horizon line. It is as though Boman stepped forward, across this field and through the trees with Skisser / Remixed, as a hazy image of crashing waves fronts the remixed EP. She traversed the placid landscape to explore the more rhythmic patterns of the ocean.

Following the announcement of his new solo debut album 'Eternal Something' due March 24th on Erased Tapes, Daniel Brandt, co-founder of Germany’s electroacoustic ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick, shares the incredible second single from his upcoming album.

"I recorded Chaparral Mesa a year ago while I was involved in a recording session for another album in Malibu. We had rented a very beautiful place overlooking hills and the sea and we had a nice basic setup to record in there with a few guitars and a moog synth. I started recording a lot of guitars on top of each other and somehow the song arranged itself. I didn’t really touch it and just went along with naturally had to happen within the song. Later I added the second part, the drumheavy one. This one was based on a session I once had with my friend Bryan Philips from Chile when I was visting him in La Serena. I took the basics from that session and added a lot of new drums later on when I was at a proper studio and then added that part to the new song. In the end Chaparral Mesa was the most quickly made song on the album but has also become the longest." – Daniel Brandt

Brandt also joins The xx at their sold out show at O2 Academy Brixton on March 14th for a support DJ set. Prior to that he will be taking part in Classic Album Sunday's ‘Meet The Composer’ event on March 13th, which takes place at the Erased Tapes Sound Gallery.

What started off as a more simplistic idea soon evolved into something a lot more complex as the London and Berlin based music producer travelled across the world, experimenting with various other artists and different instruments. From his father’s cabin based in the German countryside with access to nothing but cymbals, to being surrounded by guitars in Joshua Tree, his unexpected journey soon progressed into what became his first solo album. 

Daniel played nearly all instruments himself with the only exception being fellow musicians Florian Juncker on trombone, Manu Delago on hang drum and Andreas Voss on cello. Using his Berlin studio as his main base for recording, Brandt created an album that encapsulates the idea that despite setting out with a particular creative vision, external influences and environments will always shift the process, and create an Eternal Something.

Words from Daniel, January 2017:

“The initial idea was to make a cymbal album. I wanted to surround myself with all types of cymbals. I locked myself into my father’s cabin in the woods for three days. That was the moment I realised it was not possible for me to make an album just with cymbals because other ideas and instruments imposed themselves on me. I had a clear sense of what I wanted to do now. The intention was to let the songs evolve by themselves and not edit too much, keep it raw and have an explosion-like energy to them. I wanted to create a different sound, songs that build up like dance tunes but don't feel like club music at all. Travelling around in California for two months gave me the possibility to deeply get into this concept outside my normal environment. Robert Raths, who served as a great motivator throughout the whole process (I guess he had listened to the record more than I ever had) came up with the perfect order for the songs. This record is about failing to make the original plan happen, but then the discovery of something I couldn't even think of before.”
