Producer, DJ, promoter, and @soundsofvala label head, @soundsofkaspiann's work straddles a range of paces and moods, always with an eye toward the innovative. With a lower-tempo release due early next year on an undisclosed label, Kaspiann's more recent sonic explorations wade into swampy techno with psychedelic inflections.

In Patterns of Perception 117, Kaspiann pulls you into the flow through these murky sounds that dips and stomps along, with a selection of unreleased tracks from both his and his friends' studios, along with a handful of carefully unearthed gems.

Patterns of Perception 117 - Kaspiann

Known for her hypnotic dives to the psychedelic reaches of deep techno, London-based @freyacaldwell signature style emphasises meticulous sound design and the incorporation of lush and evocative textures. 

Having graced the stages of renowned venues and festivals throughout Europe, she has appeared at prestigious locations such as Amsterdam's De School, the Positive Education Festival, and London's own Village Underground.

Faery's Patterns of Perception 118 circles around echoes, resonances and hauntings, shifting between shadowy low-ends and moments of ecstatic crescendo. Encapsulating the tension and drama held in dnb's darker edges, the mix also weaves in touches of eerie contemporary classical-esque ambient.

Hailing from Amsterdam and with De School as his homebase, @nawazworldwide’s sound is always evolving, sliding deftly from wormhole techno to fast rhythms and glitchy electronics.

His selections on this Patterns of Perception 119 melt together while also reinforcing each other, each transition subtler than the last, sometimes even employing his own tailor-made tools and tracks for the purpose.

Beginning from a visual image, this mix blends diverse rhythms and atmospheres, offering a story line from which the listener can create their own narrative, their own image, free of imposition.

Marking the culmination of 2023, our final mix features the debut release from one of our own, @zilkamarie. As the driving force behind comms within our collective, Zilka's music inspiration is drawn from the diverse array of artists she collaborates with.

Recorded live at Jacopo (@severja) and Fred’s (@fred-czital) Hitze party back in July, the set follows on from a daytime open air while also opening the after party. Progressing from wet, spacious ambient sounds to dubby, irresistible beats, Patterns of Perception 120 captures and plays with quintessential afterhours vibes.

Hailing from Germany and now based in Portugal, @vril_01 has in recent years been quietly producing and performing some truly extraordinary electronic music. Going from strength to strength, he takes dancefloors on vivid, compelling journeys across Europe and beyond.

Patterns of Perception 121 takes us back to a very special live ambient set .VRIL performed at @nachtdigital MINT 2019, an immersive hour of lucid textures and swelling intensity.

Die https://soundcloud.com/nachti-gall ist ein bunter Hund des Nürnberger Nachtlebens. Neben Auftritten in der Nürnberger Weinerei ist er Mitorganisator des blumigen Festivals „Von Freunden für Freunde“, das alljährlich im Nürnberger Umland stattfindet. 

Zu seinem Mix hat er uns einen kleinen Text verfasst:

Der Mix hat eine längere Vorgeschichte. Ich versuche schon seit längerer Zeit zu einem Sound zu kommen, der deep, hypnotisch, verspult, aber nicht hektisch klingt. Zahlreiche Künstler, die ich sehr schätze, haben mich dazu inspiriert, es liegt jedoch auch an meinen eigenen Vorlieben, die sich einfach verschoben haben. Aber wie es so oft ist - Anhören und Auflegen sind zwei paar Schuhe. Daher habe ich unzählige Tracks gesammelt, neues Equipment ausprobiert und kleine Luftschlösser in Form von vielen Aufnahmen gebaut. Das vorläufige Resultat ist dieser Mix. 

Der Mix wurde fast vollständig in einem Rutsch während einem Fotoshooting von Julian Beuys von Telesaft (www.telesaft.de) aufgenommen. Der Großteil der Tracks, ist aus Lieblingsmixen von mir, die sich schon länger auf meinem Telefon befinden und die ich teilweise täglich höre. Daneben befinden sich einige aktuelle Lieder im Mix, die es mir  im vergangenen Jahr besonders angetan haben. Der Podcast soll sowohl Ruhe als auch Spannung transportieren, deshalb habe ich manchen Liedern ungewöhnlich viel Zeit gegeben und andere fast nur angespielt. Ich hoffe mein musikalischer Wandel gefällt euch, wünsche euch viel Spaß mit „In der Ruhe liegt die Kraft“ und würde mich über euer Feedback freuen.

Podcast 2016/ 02 Nachti Gall - ein bunter Hund

'We Stay Together' is a brand new doublepack from Andy Stott, a companion piece of sorts to the radical inversions of the 'Passed Me By' EP released earlier this year. Its predecessor left many heads dazed upon impact - in the best possible sense - and these six tracks, produced in its wake, amp the pressure to throttling degrees. Entering the digital compression chamber of 'Submission' you become a willing participant, before the lights are cut and you're forced to adjust to the humid atmosphere and bruising, muscle-contracting darkroom throb of 'Posers'. Suitably initiated, the EP's fearless centrepiece 'Bad Wires' plunges into full on mud-party mode, dropping the tempo while intensifying the kinaesthetic funk with slow, clusterf*cked syncopation until you're drowning in synthesized oil and crushed-glass textures. Fully submerged by 'We Stay Together (Part One)' time becomes elasticated like worn VHS tape, calling to mind Jamal Moss and James Ferraro soundtracking a rave in a sodden, flooded sauna, before inescapably tumbling into the sheer black hole of 'Cherry Eye' and left to the slompy jack of 'Cracked'. Blatantly, we rate this record massively, and although it's not for everyone, those looking for a more visceral, intense form of dancefloor pressure would do very well to check in

We’re happy to uncover this month’s edition of the Patterns of Perception​ mix series. This time, Nali​ has put together an hour of lush, melodic techno and house, bringing back memories of our favourite open air festivals.

Nali hails from Melbourne, Australia and is known for his love of spacious, organic textures. His DJ and live sets see him craft immersive soundscapes that represent maturity and discerning selection far beyond his years.

With a recent release on the Steeplejack​ label and an impressive performance at the Strawberry Fields​ festival, he’s certainly one to keep an eye on.

Beginning in the south, the Bruce Trail hugs the ancient shoreline of Lake Iroquoia as it follows the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The Path, over its lengthy journey, winds its way through a landscape of natural beauty as it moves up to central Ontario. 
As the Trail leads further into the depths of the woodland and Ravine, sunlight falls through layers of evergreen branches stamping intricate patterns on the forest floor. Continuing north, the Trail passes an array of plants and wildlife native to the historic forest. Vivid colours saturate the forest canopy, complimented by the sounds of the cascading waterfall echoing through the Ravine. In the distance a carpet of gently waving fern cover the rolling hills dotted with slow-growing centuries-old coniferous trees that reach towards the sun.
At the home stretch of the escarpment you will be offered stunning views of the Peninsula, with the calm blue water of the western end of Lake Ontario reaching out to the lush greens of the temperate rainforest. This is the journey of the Bruce Trail.
