From The Archives 1: My opening set at the Border Community label night Amsterdam 2005.

This is the first mix in a new series I'm starting of rediscovered, never broadcasted before or just briefly, deleted or just forgotten mixes I did spanning 1999-2021. Ready to be shared :) Happy to kick off with a mix that means a lot to me!

I remember it really well, it was 2003, I was in the library finishing my thesis and listening to Amsterdam Dance Event radio on 3VOOR12. There I heard James Holden play for the first time on the air. I was amazed, intrigued and inspired by his sound. His set sounded really fresh, deep and trippy and different than the music I heard at that time. After the radioshow he was going to play at the Mazzo in Amsterdam. A club I couldn’t go to because of my deadline. But his ADE radio set was on repeat every day afterwards.

The sunday after I went to Danzolectro Radio Activity Show at Salto Radio, a weekly radio sunday show I was hosting with Jaco and Wouter. This show was a sunday end of the weekend reminiscing the good times we've had during the weekend, but most of all, a lot of music. We've invited many dj friends to play sets at the last hour, called the Danzolectro Mix.

That sunday I played a dj set there inspired by James Holden his ADE set. In the end my friend Jaco met James during ADE, gave him my CD of the radio set and then it all ended by me playing the opening set at the first Border Community party in Amsterdam at Panama. Petter and Tomas Anderson live we're also on the line up. Deep, trippy, minimalistic, acidic and some emo tracks mixed in between. Hope you'll enjoy it! :)

@mirella-kroes’ presence in the Dutch techno scene is unmistakeable. Growing up on a diet of the tough, loop-oriented techno characteristic of the north of Holland where she was born, Kroes moved to Amsterdam as her musical horizons began to expand. Having cut her DJ teeth at iconic clubs such as Doornroosje, Trouw, Studio 80 and Cruquiusgilde, she now enjoys exploring musically deep, trippy soundscapes and organically building narratives that use space to upset conventional club rubrics.

Delving into ambient, breaks, electronica, experimental and IDM, her Patterns of Perception 59 perfectly manifests these qualities: a sonically diverse, luminescent mix best suited to private spaces, long journeys, and far-away places.
