The new episode of our podcast series comes from @lowgravitysound: Technology and imperfection, raw and processed, so many concepts that lie at the core of Futurepast identity.

Low Gravity trained his mixing and production skills in the London underground scene, before he brought his sound to Rome where he co-founded @radiocircolo and Collettivo Sonico. As an enthusiast of electroacoustics and experimental music, he deploys his knowledge to sculpt the sound, and fuse elements from ambient textures, experimental and hypnotic rhythms.

The mix itself features tracks from essential pioneers Éliane Radigue and Suzanne Ciani, Brian Eno, revered sound designers and composers like Tetsu Inoue, Alva Noto, Pete Namlook or Robert Rich, and new coming talents like LF58, Grand River, and of course Low Gravity himself, with an unreleased track.

Futurepast Mix 11 - Low Gravity

For Amsterdam-based @dj_leoni, rhythm is key. Through residencies at OOST (@komoost) and RRFM (@radioradiofm), and performances at key events across Europe (including past appearances at Dekmantel Selectors, Zeezout, Wildeburg and Paradigm, with slots at Dekmantel and Zeezout pencilled in for this year), she’s quickly developed her own distinctive understanding of rhythm and texture, from the deep and psychedelic, to the bright and energetic.

Patterns of Perception 98 is a perfect summation of DJ Leoni’s fascination and natural aptitude for rhythm. Exploring and interpreting a blend of both faster and half-speed selections, this set glides weightlessly between tempos and grooves; a radiant experience with both power and introspection. And as this mix patiently unfurls, we see the kaleidoscopic become physical, as rhythms and emotions melt.

We are so honoured to share with you this wildly imaginative and deeply progressive mix by the one and only Miro sundayMusiq. What can we say, this one was a long time coming. The story has it that Introspective Electronics in part owe its inception to this very man. He was kind enough to give our ambient CEO Avsluta the now established monthly Thursday afternoon slot on Netil Radio which he diligently runs for the past five years 🍃

Miro is, first and foremost, a truly dedicated music head and an avid record collector. His passion for music and for building a fair, healthy and conscious community around it is obvious to anyone who have ever met him and it is something that we have always admired 💛

In his signature pacifist style, Miro delivers an hour of mysterious ambient, sensual downtempo and progressive chuggers the way only he can in a trip that effortlessly moves from smoked out, tribal atmospheric plateaus into the sub 100bpm waves of rhythmic hypnotism 🐍

Monochrome presents, 𝖍𝖎𝖛𝖊𝖗 𝖑𝖑𝖑 : Stellah Maris, Öz / Exocet / Lost Area.

This winter, Monochrome is offering each month to one or several artists to discover their influences and inspirations through a forty-five minute to two hour recording. These three recordings will focus on percussive rhythms between Ambient, Deep Techno and Drum & Bass.

Artist biography :
With methodical contrasts, Stellah Maris animates magnetic tales. He plays rooted music through a surrealist prism, evoking sound rituals and lucid dreams.
As part of the Exocet collective, which he founded in 2018, Stellah Maris explores the depths and marine aesthetics in soundsystem culture and ambient music. He is also a member of the Nantes collective Öz as a resident DJ and sound technician, and takes part in the Lost Area project, a versatile platform offering visual works on a dub techno background.
Finally, he hosts Inconscient Collectif, a monthly broadcast on Radio DY10 dedicated to folk, traditional, spiritual and ritual music, as well as to the evolutions and experiments that have taken them across the ages and continents.

Fragments of Time“ ist eine Reise durch Klang und Vergänglichkeit. Treibende 4/4-Kicks, tiefe hypnotische Basslines und cineastische Synthflächen verschmelzen zu einem Sound, der zwischen Traum und Realität schwebt. Jeder Track ist ein zerbrochenes Stück Erinnerung – intensiv, düster, aber voller Emotion. Von kosmischen Atmosphären bis zu kraftvollen Peak-Time-Momenten spannt das Album einen Bogen, der das Gefühl einfängt, wie Zeit zerfällt und zugleich ewig wirkt.
Ein Album für die Nacht, für endlose Raves und für alle, die in Musik ein Stück Unendlichkeit suchen.

Pulse of Time

For Amsterdam-based Mary Lake (@marylakeworld), expression and eclecticism are vital. With an international upbringing spanning Algeria, France and the Netherlands, her musical passion finds voice in diversity and exploration, with sounds as far-flung as folk, world music and electronica finding an easy balance within her palette. 
Beginning life as a DJ within London’s underground scene and on NTS, Mary quickly became a regular on the Dutch circuit upon her return in 2017. In a club setting, her sound is truly compelling, with frenetic techno and electro rhythms blending effortlessly with left-field experimentations. 
Following appearances at Dekmantel (@dkmntl) and Lowlands festivals, as well as at many renowned venues at home in the Netherlands and abroad in cities like Berlin and Melbourne, hers is truly a star on the rise. 

Mary’s Patterns of Perception 70 is in some ways reflective of the challenges that we all face during these difficult times. With nightlife momentarily on hold, a major source of energy and inspiration has been stripped from the scene, and from life in general. For Mary, listening to her favourite music from before the onset of Covid-19 is a difficult experience, with much of it being inextricably linked to her pre-pandemic life. When preparing her mix, this forced her to rethink her taste and find inspiration elsewhere, providing the impetus to both dig deeper and look inwardly to find a deeper connection with her true self.

The resulting set is a diverse and energy-infused personal voyage that traverses a vivid spectrum of techno and breakbeat sounds. It perfectly captures Mary’s signature frenetic sound, while also embracing the optimism and simple pleasure of the living in the moment, no matter how difficult that might seem.
