This seminal 80s song by David Bowie isn't an obvious choice as an acoustic solo  cover, but I challenged myself to find a way to carry off, and now I play it live all the time. I thought I would do my own recorded version, which sounded a little flat as guitar/voice sound compared to the intimate feel of my live version. So I started added a few extra grooves and sounds to beef it up, and ended up with this acoustic funk / Talk Talk vibe.

Ashes To Ashes

Imagine if a French House banger got kidnapped by an indie band in jangly guitars and baritone melancholy. That’s this track: a cover where disco lasers became chiming strings, and the sweaty club was replaced by an awkward kitchen sink romance.

The lyrics are basically one long diary entry of a guy who panics when someone touches his knee, accidentally flirts like a Cold War spy, and rehearses love declarations in the bathroom mirror. It’s post-punk angst meets jangle-pop crush syndrome, with the emotional maturity of someone who frames ironic flowers because they don’t know what else to do.

Think: baritone vocals that sound like Joy Division’s Ian Curtis reading your group chat, guitars that sparkle like the last light in your ex’s window, and rhythms that dance like they’re too shy to actually dance.

So yeah—French House went to therapy, bought a second-hand leather jacket, and started humming about Netflix, cheese, and accidental stair routines. The result? This track.
