Paul Hazendonk’s much hyped debut album has been a long time in the making. The innovative label boss has been at the helm of Manual Music since 2005, churning out stellar releases from artists including Gabriel Ananda, Fairmont, Max Cooper, Hernan Cattaneo, John Tejada, Qbical and Alice Rose– to name but a few. However, it is only in recently months that the promise of a debut album has come to fruition – much to the delight of his fans – with “Adapt” released on Manual Music.

Not being one to pigeon-hole himself to a specific genre, Hazendonk has very much engineered his own sound since the beginning of his career and this album epitomises his eclectic taste in music with the inclusion of tracks that span Balearic beats to after-party vibes. 

Whether you’re familiar with Hazendonk’s work or not, this delicious selection of deep house and techno baths you in synths and hypnotic vocals. After just one listen, it is apparent that producer Noraj Cue has added the Midas touch to the album due to the beautifully melancholic nature of the tracks, all of which feature a warm, electronic undertone – as is his signature sound. 

Adapt begins with “In The Dark”, a stunning opener complete with haunting yet uplifting vocals from Danish singer Alice Rose – a track which gives you shivers down your spine and straps you in for the musical journey that is to come. “Story Of Something” – with spoken vocals from South African Lazarusman – is an upbeat track with a catchy lyric that wouldn’t sound out of place in a London warehouse at 4am whereas “Canyon” is intense with captivating lyrics from the unique voice of Sian Evans – the singer from Kosheen.

The stunning array of tracks featured on this debut are a testament to the technical prowess of this Dutch DJ and producer who has not only created 12 beautiful tunes in their own right but has stitched them together in such a way that you’re taken on a magical journey peppered with haunting lyrics and twinkling synths. This is also because it is literally tiny pieces and sounds from the past few years of his life patched together to create this beautiful piece of music. What is rare is that many of the tracks have a sub context close to his heart; “Canyon” portrays bereavement and losing someone you love, “Urban Suitcase” is about his adventures whilst travelling the world out of a suitcase and “You’re My Habit” is a romantic ode dedicated to the love of his life. In contrast, the album is also rich in sounds that will work on the dance floor; “Ugly Smacker” is one such example – a track penned to celebrate the return of Furrr & Hazendonk – along with “Primate” a reference to his love of grimy techno.

In short, “Adapt” is stellar work from the man who has been instrumental in giving talented deep house and techno producers a platform for their work since he started Manual Music in 2005 and now it is his turn to shine.

Once again, Carhartt WIP Radio welcomes Innervisions to the airwaves with a mix from Kristian Beyer, one half of the irrepressible, in vogue duo, Âme. Since 2003, German duo Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann have produced music under the alias Âme, combining floor-filling tunes with musical elements that go beyond the usual formula of house and techno. Their single "Rej" became a global club hit in 2006 and the duo has been travelling the world and playing at every major club and festival ever since. If that wasn't enough, along with their buddy Dixon, they also run the Innervisions label, currently one of the most sought-after names in contemporary house. Lately Wiedemann has taken to playing solo live as Âme, while Beyer deejays under the same alias. For Carhartt WIP Radio, Kristian has mixed a show featuring some of his favourite tracks from the Innervisions archive.

Paul Hazendonk and his Manual Music is one of the backbones of electronic music in the Netherlands and beyond. Having delivered two huge club hits in 2014 with ’Radio Atlantis’ and ’O Cypres’, Belgian star Compuphonic returns this February with his third EP for Exploited, ‘Magical Shoes’. 2 tracks of sublime House music, the ‘Magical Shoes’ EP sees Compuphonic finally reunited with the Beyoncé approved American singer Marques Toliver, whose vocals previously graced Maxime’s 2012 breakout hit ’Sunset’.

Once again this Transatlantic pairing have struck gold as Compuphonic’s distinctive brand of deeply emotional, nuanced, House Music provides the perfect setting for Marques’ plaintive vocals. With it’s distinctive Korg M1 organ and shuffling beats ‘Magical Shoes’ instantly brings to mind legendary ‘90s New York clubs like The Sound Factory but thanks to Compuphonic’s production skills it goes well beyond that of simple period pastiche and sounds utterly fresh for 2015, a bonafide club hit that is already peppering the sets of DJs such as Laurent Garnier, Tensnake and The Magician.

As the title suggests the EP’s 2nd track ‘The Sun Does Rise’ is the natural successor to the duo’s previous outing. As deep as the Pacific Ocean this is a trance inducing hymn to hope, music designed to elevate the soul as much as move the body and bring some much needed warmth back to clubland. Expect to hear this played everywhere and anywhere this year where the party goes through the night and the first morning light breaks over the dancefloor.

With a career spanning over 25 years, Paul Hazendonk is a true veteran of the global electronic music scene. Known for his distinct sound and tireless dedication to his craft, Paul has built a reputation as both an acclaimed DJ and an influential industry figure.

Since the early 2000s, Paul has toured extensively across the globe, performing in more than 40 countries—from the pulsating clubs of Berlin and the underground venues of Toronto, to dancefloors in Sydney, Paris, Kuala Lumpur, Budapest and beyond. He’s held residencies at some of the Netherlands' most iconic nightclubs, including Las Palmas (Rotterdam), Asta (The Hague), and AIR (Amsterdam), and has performed at renowned events such as Awakenings, Dance Valley, and Electronation.

Paul's deep roots in the scene trace back to Rotterdam’s legendary Basic Beat, a well-known record store and record company, where he took his first steps in label management and music curation. It was here that the foundation was laid for Manual Music—his own record company, which has since grown into a respected and influential force within the electronic music landscape. Today, Manual Music is Paul's primary focus. The company encompasses multiple sub-labels and operates its own publishing and digital distribution divisions, managing a vast catalogue of tens of thousands of tracks from a wide range of international artists.

As a music producer, Paul's discography reflects the evolution of electronic music over the years. His work has been released on respected labels such as Get Physical Music, Sony/Epic, Diynamic, Sudbeat, Kittball, Einmusika, and 3000Grad, though in recent years he has focused primarily on releasing through his own Manual Music imprints to retain full creative control and artistic independence. Over the years, he has also released multiple DJ mix compilations and two full-length artist albums.

Beyond the booth and studio, Paul is a respected voice in the Dutch music industry. He’s frequently invited as a keynote speaker and panelist at music conferences and has served as an examiner for the renowned Herman Brood Academy, mentoring the next generation of music professionals.
