Welcome to Frequency Underground! We feature the best in regional house and techno. We've got a killer mix for you this week as we celebrate our 150th episode! Before we go any further all of us at Frequency Underground would like to thank all our supporters and artists who's helped get the show this far! Moving back to the mix, we couldn't have had a better guest to celebrate the occation that Tampa native, Brian Busto! He's put together a seamless mix of deep house, hypnotic acid, soulful Chicago tracks and plenty more twists to keep you captivated on the two hour journey. ◾Real Name: Brian Busto

◾How did you come up with your dj name (or why did you use your actual name): Friends usually call me by my last name and being that I’m a Tampa native I thought it was a good choice. 

◾How and when did you get into djing: Went to my first house night in 1991 called Aahz at the Beacham Theater in Orlando Florida. Took me some time to go from observer to participant but I would say the night that changed my life was in 1993 at the legendary Simons in Gainesville Florida. Took E for the first time on a dancefloor and was taken to the house music promised land. The lineup was Laurent Garnier, DJ Three and DJ Chang. I was one of three others that stayed til the last song. A year later I bought my first pair of 1200s with a radio shack mixer. DJ Three went with me on the purchase and helped me get set up. The next day DJ Matty came over to show me the ropes. The start of an incredible journey had begun being a dj/promoter for close to 30 years now. Out of the 30 years ive been professional for about 23 of them including currently. Underground music only!

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: As for DJ influences go that’s an easy one. DJ Three, Doc Martin, Derrick May, Derrick Carter, Danny T, and Laurent Garnier. 

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: Well I’m not a genre dj so describing my sound is like describing my mood. It really depends on how I’m feeling and the room I’m playing for. I try my best to not be predictable. 
What’s consistent is the style in which I play. First and foremost for me are long mixes, smooth transitions and track selection. I keep the effects to a minimal and let the music do the talking. 

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist: A vinyl night with good friends, more gigs to travel to, more events in my hometown, and more mixes to make.

Joe L has spent over 20 years behind the decks, consistently making his mark on DC's vibrant nightclub and event scene. From 2003 to 2013, Joe organized and produced events throughout the city, with his longest-running venture being "Everybody Loves Music." This series of parties at TNT nightclub on Georgia Avenue, which ran from 2007 to 2010 and earned him second place in the Washington Post's prestigious Best Dance Event Series for 2008.

Throughout his career, Joe L has held residencies at renowned venues, including Sonar nightclub in Baltimore for the Wednesday Exit Party, 13 years at Jimmy Valentine's in Northeast, and three years at ESL. Additionally, he spent two years at U Street Music Hall, where he not only played as a DJ but also managed artist relations during the venue's early years and the infamous Red Fridays nights.

As an influential event promoter, Joe played a crucial role in introducing acclaimed artists like Theo Parrish to the DC area. He also booked an impressive roster of talents, including Kerri Chandler, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Eddie C, Chez Damier, Marques Wyatt, Jesse Saunders, Stacy Kidd, and many others.

As a DJ, Joe has headlined numerous local dance floors alongside heavyweights such as Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, The Revenge, Eddie C, Recloose, Craig Smith, Derrick Carter, Jellybean Benitez, Joe Claussell, Jovonn, Jimpster, and Paul Woolford, to name just a few. When Joe takes control of the room, one thing is certain—expect the unexpected. With his vast musical palette and extensive collection of records, his sets seamlessly traverse various genres, including house music, disco, techno, funk, breakbeats, hip-hop, and everything in between. Given the right atmosphere and time, he effortlessly blends it all together, creating a dynamic and unforgettable experience on the dance floor.
