My Life is Such an Upper

This song is about losing my wonderful big brother when I was a young man. He bought me 'The White Fender Strat' and said quietly through his smile "No excuses now...". Thanks forever bro, this is for you as always.

I have never had my toast buttered on both sides

A life full of friends, a wife he adored
A house full of kids, was his life's reward

He lit up a smoke that someone had tossed
He knew what had happened, he knew what he lost
How could this happen? He wasn't so bad
He was good to his wife and always a dad

She leaned on the rail clenching her fists
Shards in her heart, scars on her wrists
Like the rag doll she felt like, all pulled apart
Looking down at her future, that never did start
No one would care if she decided to stay
Tears falling in water and rippling away
She thought about school, they made fun of her looks
The friends that she had, they all lived in books
Eating lunch in the bathroom, where she would escape
For the moment she’d hide from this form of rape   
Every morning a greeting from faces so fair
She wears the same dress; just look at that hair
Being quite entertaining, the brunt of the joke
Not bearing the weight, her heart it just broke
Where did she go she wasn’t in school?
Another statistic, she just wasn’t cool
