The year was 2000. A new reality show hit the airwaves. It was called "Survivor." I liked it; I liked it a lot. So did my sister Toby. Every week I would call her in anticipation of a new episode, heralding its arrival by leaving a message on her phone machine (phone machine!), in which I said nothing other than "Survivor's on," generally building from a slow, plaintive wail to a frenzied, Dionysian chant.

Toby saved them. She shouldn't have. You will never get this 49 seconds of your life back.

A cover version of the Stevie Wonder song that Syreeta sung as a ballad, but now more famous as a guitar instrumental by Jeff Beck. As part of a cabaret band I used to play this instrumental to bewildered South London Working Men's club audiences back in the late 1970s. Happy Memories. If you're one of my ex-lovers, then you probably think this song is about you, don't you  ;->
