With the vision of spreading love through music, french music label Novaj is doing so with their latest VA compilation 'Utopia'. This 20 track EP features tracks from underground music heavyweights such as, Madcat, Chevals, Matthieu Faubourg, Mangabey, and M.ono to name a couple. With sounds ranging from classic french house to loop oriented sample based house, this EP delivers on all aspects. Brûle is a classic house track produced by French producer Herr Krank. This track uplifts your mood with its Kerri Chandler inspired piano key riffs and lively drums but switches the formula up with a hip-hop drum pattern and acid breaks in the middle of the track.

Across the ‘Street Rave EP’ McVicar marries Chicago inflected raw house sounds with an unmistakable UK rave slant throughout. From the buoyant combination of undulating bass and a rich palette of synths, stabs and vocal drops, the title track is just under six minutes of earworming hooks. ‘Dorian’ is a tougher, more clipped affair with a stomping, acid-inflected groove doing the work while closing track sees McVicar team up with fellow Scot Roose for a no-holds-barred workout which fuse 4:4 UK hardcore to a rock-solid house beat.

Precision kicks, pitter-patter effects and an escalating melody are joined by a spoken word sample in the bouncy ‘SMML’, before moving into ‘turboshandy’ with its springy bassline, lively synth stabs and heady pitched up vox. Tying things together, ‘heavy bad yin’ is a rumbling cut that powers onwards courtesy of robust drums, swinging hats and a squelchy acid lead.
