“Just One of Those Things” was originally composed by Cole Porter for the 1935 musical Jubilee. This classic jazz standard was rearranged by Shyvon Siaw for Big Band, beginning with an exciting brass intro and reharmonised chord progressions. The uptempo swing arrangement includes many key changes and a captivating melody that varies across the saxes and brass instruments. Featuring solos on the alto saxophone, trumpet and “trading fours” between piano and drums, this piece creates interest through the exchange of musical ideas that leads into the Arranger’s Chorus and finally returns to the main melody and outro.
