It’s been a good 6/7 months since I was able to put an EE show together with my own track selections, showcasing the best in new underground electronic music, for the time being I’ve only had time to publish the guest mix each week.
In short I’ve been too busy moving from one side of the Country (enjoying London) and setting up the new Houndstooth label, I’ve found my free time go from little to none at all …… So tonight I’ve put some time aside for this.
Short and sweet, a little rough round the edges snap-shot of what I’m feeling right now, which also includes several tracks from the Houndstooth label!!

July 15th 2013 - Resident Advisor mix from Δkkord. 
Initially conceived as an outlet for a collective of like-minded artists from the rural outskirts of Manchester, Δkkord have already achieved more than the sum of their parts. Having self-released two long sold-out records and with their ‘Surge’ track gracing the first ever 12” from the label arm of the well-respected Electronic Explorations; they’ve achieved something of a cult following completely on the merits of their output. Bringing together their collected musical experience, Δkkord channel a sound that’s a hybrid of the electronic musics its members were raised on and their output for Houndstooth is a further distillation of their passions for sonic minimalism and sound design.

The ‘Warehouse Sessions’ return to ELECTRONIC EXPLORATIONS once again this December after the monumental success of the first batch of 5 mixes in 2012. Truss, AnD, Stormfield & myself, Kangding Ray (EE mix of 2012) and DJ Skirt kicked off the series to mass appeal, so this will now be a once year event, running for 5 consecutive days. To kick us off – 006, EE welcomes an artist I’ve been a friend of for the entire time I’ve been doing EE, Sigha, an artist I’ve actually been trying to get on the show for just as long !

When I came to London last year to join fabric and head the A&R for the artist led label Houndstooth I got dragged down to Hackney Wick for what was going to be a life changing techno event of the rawest level. This happening is what has inspired my series of Warehouse Sessions, where I have reached out to my favourite techno artists and asked them to get inspired by that unique thump thump betwixt concrete sounds that industrialised techno spaces always provoke and provide a suitably banging mix for my Electronic Explorations podcast series.

The podcast is full of music released in the 90s. Not all of it, but a lot of it. Nothing to do with thinking no one’s making good tunes at the moment and everything released in the 90s was brilliant. Just wanted to do something that was quite manky and a bit mad… A lot of the tunes sound quite grungy and a bit shady, but that’s what we went for on this one. Some of it’s not really mixed, it’s not a DJ set so it doesn’t really have to be. Lots of tracks are just mashed into each other, sometimes using field recordings or sound from films and interviews, and other times just using bits from different songs, like Pan Sonic madness. There’s no real theme to it, the audio extracts in there are all unrelated, some from a trip to Japan, a bit from a youtube interview, bits from a film i watched while working on the podcast. None of it’s new apart from a few bits from ourselves. Hopefully there’s a lot of stuff inside people haven’t heard.

This coming Monday, 22nd Spetember Clouds will release a sampler of the forthcoming "I Care Because You Don't" compilation coming out October 2014.

Heir apparent to the UK techno throne, Clouds have been gaining credibility with each release. With their LP Ghost Systems Rave, 12"s on Fifth Wall and Soma, and their latest Tannhauser Acid Works EP, they've reached beyond the warehouse and into the wild apocalyptic rubble of po-mo UK hardcore. 

Their lead track Blood Skating is an industrial blitz of terror-beats, laced with a haunting, Aphex-grade vocal pad. It sets the tone for this incredible release, which they've A&R'd out of thin air, apparently from their mates in Dundee, Perth, and the surrounding mud-lands. 

The 12" sampler features DJ Hesburger's 'Roll Up Your Sleeves, Welcome to the Dance,' an awesome slice of overdriven acid electro that sounds like MPIA3 on MDMA. Jane 'Fuck Your Alliance' is proper mental brain dance, while Dance Company's ‘Berzerkerz’ sounds like an unearthed hardcore anthem from 92.

Electronic Explorations - 349 - Maelstrom

Zeitgeber is the duo of Speedy J and Lucy. Both renowned techno artists in their own  right, they’ve teamed up together to create a spellbinding album of abstract electronics. As  the owner of Electric Deluxe, Speedy J has overseen one of modern techno’s finest  imprints. He was there at techno’s beginnings as a DJ and producer, and he continues to  stand at its avant-garde, pushing his artists and himself to continue to innovate.

The same  goes for Stroboscopic Artefacts head Lucy, whose young imprint has never failed to  impress in its ambition and output. Lucy has a clear vision of what he wants with his  imprint, and across the label’s three album releases you can see that it has been  achieved. Zeitgeber marks a new era for Stroboscopic Artefacts. But it’s business as usual  for both Speedy J and Lucy, two of techno’s leading lights.  [Words: Todd L. Burns]

Considered as an artist with an impeccably tight reputation, the bulk of October's output exhumes an enigmatic strain of techno that's currently being pumped through the veins of the underground community. His releases been housed by the likes of Fred P's Soul People Music, BRSTL and Will Saul's Aus Music camp – whilst Smith’s kept himself busy operating TANSTAAFL (There Aint No Such Thing As A Free Lunch) alongside John Osborn. Lately though, it's his stint with the superlative Swedish outfit, Skudge that’s been garnering him the most kudos, releasing both the upstanding Empires EP and, perhaps most notably, this year's Gate 2 Yesterday on Skudge's self-titled imprint. Revealing that he’ll also be releasing his debut album via Skudge, Smith promises that he’ll stray away from his usual material and showcase a body of work that explains “what he’s really about.”

The main body of the mix is our tracks, a large proportion of those are new things we have been working on after a week-long recording session on residency in South Wales earlier in the year.  Framing these are tracks that have inspired me this year whilst on amazing trips to Lisbon and Unsound festival in Poland.   Enjoy :-)   "


Petwo Evans is the latest music project from long-term collaborators drummer/percussionist/producer Rich Thair and electronic musician/sound artist Jake Williams. Much of their music is made on a remote farm in West Wales - Rich makes rhythms using found objects (tumble dryer, water bottle, broken piano and stone) which are then looped, processed and combined with electronic machines to create that reflects the landscape - age-old continental drifts, abandoned industrial quarries and the Blade Runner-thrill of driving through Port Talbot at night.

So far they have released 2 EPs on the Huntleys & Palmers label - Tumble (2014) and x0x (2015).  These have gained them DJ support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Rob da Bank, Ben UFO, Optimo, Lena Willikens and Severino (Horse Meat Disco) and comparisons to some seriously heavy-hitters - “Gqom done by Patten.. Roska meeting T++” (Bookmat) / “recalls a DIY take on the short-lived Congotronics series, whose contributors included Shackleton and Mark Ernestus” (RA) / "Mark Fell sparring with a skeletal Spoek Mathambo” (Bleep).

Hi & Saberhägen, aka Kami and Pete, are two friends from Edinburgh who, when it comes to their productions, aren’t afraid to veer outside of their comfort zone. Independently they’ve been making music for a while, with Kami also running Juice, a weekly night at Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh, but it was only last year that their debut EP via Huntleys & Palmers dropped. 

After drawing interest from the likes of Joy Orbison, Tim Sweeney and Anthony Naples, whose label, Proibito, released their EP in April they have started to make a name for them in the scene and with forthcoming releases on Permanent Vacation and Yumé, it’s safe to say this the duo must be doing something right.

"I put a lot of love in to this mix so I hope you enjoy it! It includes many artists who I have recently, and in some cases for a much longer time, found inspiring to my own personal evolution as part of Shaddah Tuum and in my solo practice as a musician and performer. It also includes some recently released and unreleased music from Portals Editions as well as artists who are close to us. I have been reading a lot about Tibetan Buddhism, and of late, the Bardo Thodol (Tibetan Book of the Dead), the name of which is sometimes translated as "The Great Liberation Through Hearing In The Bardo" and the mix is conceived as a simulation of journeying through that vast in-between state." > Xorzyzt

The final mix in the series comes from Eltron John, a veteran DJ, producer and the go-to name in Poland if you want a perfect mix of heartfelt house and disco that is soul-searching, raw and trippy– all at the same time. 

There's always a distinct percussive element to his music, from his biggest hitter "Bomby", with its infectious and bouncy vocal sample, through surprising moments in his sets like that time when he dropped a version of Roberto De Somone’s "II° Coro Delle Lavandaie” during his fantastic Boiler Room Kraków appearance, to all the little nuances you can find in his selection here. 

There's a wonderfully groovy narrative to the mix and it just keeps building, getting more lush with every track, eventually reaching an euphoric bliss, where you find yourself surrounded by a drum extravaganza.

“This is a home recorded set which is much like the typical kind of set I do when I play in a club at 4-5 am, for example when I play at Rex Club and Gaité Lyrique in Paris. I try to get something immersive going rhythm-wise but also in the sonic aspect, and let one or two moments in the hour to breathe a little. I like to begin by building a four to the floor groove and later let the rhythm disintegrate a little.”

Head of the fast rising imprint In Paradisum, Mondkopf has a love for the experimental, the industrial and the distorted that brought him logically to join Perc Trax. His EP The Nicest Way released on the label in February showcased the two side of his music, with the brutal techno of “Ruins” & “No Icons” and a more symphonic side with BBC favourite “33 000 Bells”, receiving was praise from Dave Clarke, Optimo and Untold among others. He is now putting the final touches to his next album.

EE 265 (June 2013) - Bleaching Agent, releases on Avian sub label Mira, Komisch and has a forthcoming release on Opal Tapes - “This was done in one take, with some preparation but not too much. It’s a mixture of recent purchases and old ‘classics’, a lot of which I forgot I had until recently. None of my own tracks are in here, which was a deliberate decision. I didn’t see the need, one would assume I’d play them in a club anyway. So yeah, have fun!”
