For the 10th edition of the Hedchef show on Threads Radio, we're changing up the format of the show a little to being more directly Melbourne-focused, highlighting the very best music coming out of Victoria, still with a solid focus on low-end bassweight, but a little further across the spectrum.

To introduce the slight change of focus, we're joined this month by an absolutely mind-blowing DJ, by the name of uuuuJa!, originally from South Korea, who mixes a wild blend of slow-cut rhythms, ambience, off-kilter techno, noise and god knows what else - a true artist on the decks.

The podcast is full of music released in the 90s. Not all of it, but a lot of it. Nothing to do with thinking no one’s making good tunes at the moment and everything released in the 90s was brilliant. Just wanted to do something that was quite manky and a bit mad… A lot of the tunes sound quite grungy and a bit shady, but that’s what we went for on this one. Some of it’s not really mixed, it’s not a DJ set so it doesn’t really have to be. Lots of tracks are just mashed into each other, sometimes using field recordings or sound from films and interviews, and other times just using bits from different songs, like Pan Sonic madness. There’s no real theme to it, the audio extracts in there are all unrelated, some from a trip to Japan, a bit from a youtube interview, bits from a film i watched while working on the podcast. None of it’s new apart from a few bits from ourselves. Hopefully there’s a lot of stuff inside people haven’t heard.

This coming Monday, 22nd Spetember Clouds will release a sampler of the forthcoming "I Care Because You Don't" compilation coming out October 2014.

Heir apparent to the UK techno throne, Clouds have been gaining credibility with each release. With their LP Ghost Systems Rave, 12"s on Fifth Wall and Soma, and their latest Tannhauser Acid Works EP, they've reached beyond the warehouse and into the wild apocalyptic rubble of po-mo UK hardcore. 

Their lead track Blood Skating is an industrial blitz of terror-beats, laced with a haunting, Aphex-grade vocal pad. It sets the tone for this incredible release, which they've A&R'd out of thin air, apparently from their mates in Dundee, Perth, and the surrounding mud-lands. 

The 12" sampler features DJ Hesburger's 'Roll Up Your Sleeves, Welcome to the Dance,' an awesome slice of overdriven acid electro that sounds like MPIA3 on MDMA. Jane 'Fuck Your Alliance' is proper mental brain dance, while Dance Company's ‘Berzerkerz’ sounds like an unearthed hardcore anthem from 92. 

The full "…I Care Because You Don't" compilation is coming October 2014.

Zeitgeber is the duo of Speedy J and Lucy. Both renowned techno artists in their own  right, they’ve teamed up together to create a spellbinding album of abstract electronics. As  the owner of Electric Deluxe, Speedy J has overseen one of modern techno’s finest  imprints. He was there at techno’s beginnings as a DJ and producer, and he continues to  stand at its avant-garde, pushing his artists and himself to continue to innovate.

The same  goes for Stroboscopic Artefacts head Lucy, whose young imprint has never failed to  impress in its ambition and output. Lucy has a clear vision of what he wants with his  imprint, and across the label’s three album releases you can see that it has been  achieved. Zeitgeber marks a new era for Stroboscopic Artefacts. But it’s business as usual  for both Speedy J and Lucy, two of techno’s leading lights.  [Words: Todd L. Burns]

Considered as an artist with an impeccably tight reputation, the bulk of October's output exhumes an enigmatic strain of techno that's currently being pumped through the veins of the underground community. His releases been housed by the likes of Fred P's Soul People Music, BRSTL and Will Saul's Aus Music camp – whilst Smith’s kept himself busy operating TANSTAAFL (There Aint No Such Thing As A Free Lunch) alongside John Osborn. Lately though, it's his stint with the superlative Swedish outfit, Skudge that’s been garnering him the most kudos, releasing both the upstanding Empires EP and, perhaps most notably, this year's Gate 2 Yesterday on Skudge's self-titled imprint. Revealing that he’ll also be releasing his debut album via Skudge, Smith promises that he’ll stray away from his usual material and showcase a body of work that explains “what he’s really about.”

The seventh edition of my mix series Get It is here, and this time it's dedicated to breakbeats, with a luscious selection of modern breakbeat tracks, mixed lovingly on vinyl by myself. “This is a home recorded set which is much like the typical kind of set I do when I play in a club at 4-5 am, for example when I play at Rex Club and Gaité Lyrique in Paris. I try to get something immersive going rhythm-wise but also in the sonic aspect, and let one or two moments in the hour to breathe a little. I like to begin by building a four to the floor groove and later let the rhythm disintegrate a little.”

Head of the fast rising imprint In Paradisum, Mondkopf has a love for the experimental, the industrial and the distorted that brought him logically to join Perc Trax. His EP The Nicest Way released on the label in February showcased the two side of his music, with the brutal techno of “Ruins” & “No Icons” and a more symphonic side with BBC favourite “33 000 Bells”, receiving was praise from Dave Clarke, Optimo and Untold among others. He is now putting the final touches to his next album.
